Claims
- 1. A luminescent polysubstituted aryl acridinium ester selected from the group having the following structure: ##STR5## where R.sub.1 is an alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or aryl group; R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.5, or R.sub.7 are a hydrogen, amino, carboxyl, hydroxyl, alkoxyl, nitro, or halide group; R.sub.4 or R.sub.8 are an, alkoxyl, group; R.sub.6 represents hydrogen or the following substituent:
- R.sub.6 =-R.sub.9 -R.sub.10
- where R.sub.9 is not required but if present is an alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl group, and R.sub.10 is selected from the following: ##STR6## ;X is CH.sub.3 SO4.sup.-, OSO.sub.2 F.sup.-, a halide, OSO.sub.2 CF.sub.3.sup.-, OSO.sub.2 C.sub.4 F.sub.9.sup.-, ##STR7## R is alkyl, aryl, aralkyl; and finally R.sub.5, R.sub.6, and R.sub.7 substituent positions on the phenoxy ring are interchangeable.
- 2. A luminescent compound according to claim 1 wherein R.sub.1 is a methyl group; R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.5, and R.sub.7 are hydrogen; R.sub.4 and R.sub.8 are a methoxyl group; R.sub.10 is an N-succinimidyl oxycarbonyl group attached directly to the para-position of the phenoxy ring; and X is CH.sub.3 SO.sub.4.sup.-.
- 3. A luminescent polysubstituted aryl acridinium ester selected from the group having the following structure: ##STR8## where R.sub.1 is an alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or aryl group; R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.5, or R.sub.7 are a hydrogen, amino, carboxyl, hydroxyl, alkoxyl, nitro, or halide group; R.sub.4 or R.sub.8 are an alkyl group; R.sub.6 represents hydrogen; X is CH.sub.3 SO.sub.4.sup.-, .sup.- OSO.sub.2 F, a halide, .sup.- OSO.sub.2 CF.sub.3, .sup.- OSO.sub.2 C.sub.4 F.sub.9, or ##STR9## and the R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 substituent positions on the phenoxy ring are interchangeable.
- 4. A luminescent compound according to claim 3 wherein R, is a methyl group; R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.5, and R.sub.7 are hydrogen; and R.sub.4 and R.sub.8 are methyl group.
- 5. A luminescent polysubstituted aryl acridinium ester selected from the group having the following structure: ##STR10## where R.sub.1 is an alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, or aryl group; R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.5, or R.sub.7 are a hydrogen, amino, carboxyl, hydroxyl, alkoxyl, nitro, or halide group; R.sub.4 or R.sub.8 are an alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, alkoxyl, amino, amido, sulfonamido, or sulfide group; R.sub.6 represents hydrogen or the following substituents:
- R.sub.6 =-R.sub.9 -R.sub.10
- where R.sub.9 is not required but optionally can be an alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl group, and R.sub.10 is selected from the following: ##STR11## ;X is CH.sub.3 SO4.sup.-, OSO.sub.2 F.sup.-, a halide, OSO.sub.2 CF.sub.3.sup.-, OSO.sub.2 C.sub.4 F.sub.9.sup.-, ##STR12## R is alkyl, aryl, aralkyl; and finally R.sub.5, R.sub.6, and R.sub.7 substituent positions on the phenoxy ring are interchangeable.
- 6. A luminescent compound according to claim 5 wherein R.sub.1 is a methyl group; R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.5, and R.sub.7 are hydrogen; R.sub.4 and R.sub.8 are a methyl group; R.sub.10 is an N-succinimidyl oxycarbonyl group attached directly to the para-position of the phenoxy ring; and X is CH.sub.3 SO.sub.4.sup.-.
