Claims
- 1. A composite structure consisting essentially of a glass fabric and a coating thereon consisting essentially of a topcoat of film-forming unsintered polytetrafluoroethylene and a base coat of the condensation product of a polyhydrolyzable compound, which condensation product is a tetravalent titanium oxide polymer, a zirconium oxide polymer, or a tin oxide polymer.
- 2. The composite structure of claim 1 wherein the basecoat is a tetravalent titanium oxide polymer.
- 3. The composite structure of claim 1 wherein the basecoat is a tetravalent zirconium oxide polymer.
- 4. The composite structure of claim 1 wherein the basecoat is a tetravalent tin oxide polymer.
- 5. Process for increasing the flex life of glass fabric, comprising forming a base coating thereon of a condensation product of polyhydrolyzable compound which is a compound of tetravalent organic titanium, tetravalent organic zirconium, or tetravalent organic tin, followed by forming a top coat thereon of film-forming unsintered polytetrafluoroethylene.
- 6. The process of claim 5 wherein the polyhydrolyzable compound is a tetravalent organic titanium.
- 7. The process of claim 5 wherein the polyhydrolyzable compound is a tetravalent organic zirconium.
- 8. The process of claim 5 wherein the polyhydrolyzable compound is a tetravalent organic tin.
- 9. A process for increasing the flex life of glass fabric, comprising coating said fabric with an aqueous dispersion consisting essentially of water, film-forming unsintered polytetrafluoroethylene, and a polyhydrolyzable compound which is a compound of tetravalent organic titanium, tetravalent organic zirconium, or tetravalent organic tin, and heating the coating to dry it and cause condensation of said compound, said heating being insufficient to cause sintering of said polytetrafluoroethylene, the proportions of polytetrafluoroethylene and said polyhydrolyzable compound in said dispersion being such that the amount of polytetrafluoroethylene in the coating is between 50 and 99.5 weight percent of the coating with the remainder being the polyhydrolyzable compound.
- 10. The process of claim 9 wherein the polyhydrolyzable compound is a tetravalent organic titanium.
- 11. The process of claim 9 wherein the polyhydrolyzable compound is a tetravalent organic zirconium.
- 12. The process of claim 9 wherein the polyhydrolyzable compound is a tetravalent organic tin.
