Claims
- 1. A rigid cellular polymer prepared by bringing together under foam forming conditions an aromatic polyisocyanate, a polymeric polyol, and a mixed blowing agent comprising (1) from about 2 to about 25 percent by weight of at least one halocarbon blowing agent having a boiling point below about 10.degree. C.; (2) from about 30 to about 90 percent by weight of at least one halocarbon blowing agent having a boiling point of from about 20.degree. C. to about 35.degree. C.; and (3) from about 8 to about 45 percent by weight of an inert organic liquid having a boiling point from about 35.degree. C. to about 125.degree. C., and provided at least one of said components (1), (2), or (3) contains at least one hydrogen atom, wherein the proportions of reactants are such that the ratio of isocyanate equivalents to total active hydrogen equivalents falls within a range of from about 0.90:1 to about 4:1 provided that when the ratio exceeds about 1.15:1 an isocyanurate catalyst is present.
- 2. A rigid cellular polymer according to claim 1 wherein said polyisocyanate comprises polymethylene poly(phenyl isocyanate).
- 3. A rigid cellular polymer according to claim 1 wherein said polymeric polyol has a molecular weight of from about 225 to about 12,000 and a functionality of from about 2 to about 8.
- 4. A rigid cellular polymer according to claim 1 wherein said mixed blowing agent comprises (1) from about 4 to about 10 percent by weight of at least one haloalkane having 1 to 2 carbon atoms and a boiling point of from about 5.degree. C. to about -25.degree. C.; (2) from about 50 to about 75 percent by weight of at least one chlorofluoroalkane: and (3) from about 20 to about 40 percent by weight of at least one hydrogen containing haloalkane having 1 to 2 carbons and a boiling point of from about 40.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C.
- 5. A rigid cellular polyurethane-polyisocyanurate polymer according to claim 1 said polymer prepared by bringing together:
- I. a polymethylene poly(phenyl isocyanate);
- II. a crude polyester polyol having a primary hydroxyl functionality of from about 2 to about 4 or average value thereof and molecular weight from about 250 to about 1,500 or average value thereof;
- III. a mixed blowing agent comprising (1) from about 4 to about 10 percent by weight of a member selected from the group consisting of 1,1-difluoroethane, 1,1,1-chlorodifluoroethane, 1-chloro-1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane, 1-chloro-1,2,2,2-tetrafluoroethane, and mixtures thereof: (2) from about 50 to about 75 percent by weight of a member selected from the group consisting of trichlorofluoromethane, dichlorotrifluoroethane, dichlorofluoromethane, and mixtures thereof: and (3) from about 20 to about 40 percent by weight of a member selected from the group consisting of methylene chloride, dichloroethane, trichloroethane, and mixtures thereof; and
- IV. an isocyanurate catalyst, and wherein the proportions of reactants are such that the ratio of isocyanate equivalents to total active hydrogen equivalents falls within a range of from about 1.75:1 to about 3:1.
- 6. A rigid cellular polymer according to claim 5 wherein said blowing agent (III) comprises (1) 1,1,1-chlorodifluoroethane: (2) trichlorofluoromethane; and (3) trichloroethane.
