Claims
- 1. A packaged towelette composed of a sheet of nonwoven fibers impregnated with an emulsion binder of vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer containing polyvinyl alcohol as a protective colloid, said binder being maintained temporarily insolubilized in gel-like form while in wet condition within said package by contact with a non-alkaline aqueous solution of boric acid, wherein said temporarily insolubilized binder is dissolvable by flushing in water.
- 2. The article as defined in claim 1 wherein said aqueous solution of boric acid is a concentration of at least 1% by weight up to the limit of its solubility in water.
- 3. The article as defined in claim 1 wherein said aqueous solution of boric acid having a concentration in the range of about 3 to 5% weight.
- 4. The article as defined in claim 1 wherein said polyvinyl alcohol protective colloid has a degree of hydrolysis of 80-90% and further has a low to medium viscosity.
- 5. The article as defined in claim 4 wherein said polyvinyl alcohol comprises 1 to 10 parts by weight per 100 parts of said emulsion.
- 6. A packaged towelette composed of a sheet of nonwoven fibers impregnated with an emulsion binder of vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer containing polyvinyl alcohol as a protective colloid, said binder being maintained temporarily insolubilized in gel-like form while in wet condition within said package by contact with a non-alkaline aqueous solution of a soluble salt selected from the group consisting of sodium sulfate and potassium citrate, wherein said temporarily insolubilized binder is dissolvable by flushing in water.
- 7. The article as defined in claim 6 wherein said aqueous solution comprises a soluble salt in a concentration in the range of about 3 to about 20% by weight.
- 8. The article as defined in claim 7 wherein said soluble salt comprises sodium sulfate.
- 9. A wet skin cleansing cloth disposed in folded condition in an impervious sealed envelope, said cloth being readily toilet-flushable when removed from said envelope, and being formed of a nonwoven fiber sheet impregnated film of vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer containing polyvinyl alcohol as a protective colloid, said sheet being maintained wet within said envelope by contact with an aqueous solution of boric acid.
- 10. The article as defined in claim 9 wherein said protective colloid ranges from about 80 to 99% by weight hydrolyzed vinyl acetate.
