Claims
- 1. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin for use in the production of whitened polyvinyl chloride foam comprising vinyl chloride polymer and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of said dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and iii) mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally containing at least one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 2. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin according to claim 1 wherein said resin comprises resin particles having an average particle diameter from about 0.1 to about 10 microns.
- 3. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin according to claim 1 wherein said at least one first additive is selected from the group consisting of sodium methane sulfoxylate, sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate, sodium formaldehyde bisulfite, sodium toluene sulfoxylate, sodium acetone bisulfite, sodium methane bisulfite, and mercapto acetic acid sodium salt.
- 4. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin according to claim 1 wherein said resin contains at least about 0.001 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of said dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin of said at least one second additive.
- 5. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin according to claim 4 wherein said at least one second additive is at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals.
- 6. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin according to claim 5 wherein said at least one water soluble metal salt is a water soluble salt of sodium, potassium, calcium, zinc, tin, nickel or cobalt.
- 7. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin according to claim 5 wherein said at least one water soluble metal salt is a chloride, chlorate, hydroxide, nitrate, borate, iodate, thiosulfate or sulfate.
- 8. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin according to claim 4 wherein said at least one second additive is t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 9. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin for use in a plastisol containing dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin for the production of whitened polyvinyl chloride foam, said dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin comprising vinyl chloride polymer and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of said dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally comprising at least one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 10. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin according to claim 9 wherein said resin comprises resin particles having an average particle diameter from about 20 to about 40 microns.
- 11. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin according to claim 9 wherein said at least one first additive is selected from the group consisting of sodium methane sulfoxylate, sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate, sodium formaldehyde bisulfite, sodium toluene sulfoxylate, sodium acetone bisulfite, sodium methane bisulfite, and mercapto acetic acid sodium salt.
- 12. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin according to claim 9 wherein said resin contains at least about 0.001 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of said dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin of said second additive.
- 13. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin according to claim 12 wherein said second additive is at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals.
- 14. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin according to claim 13 wherein said at least one water soluble metal salt is a water soluble salt of sodium, potassium, calcium, zinc, tin, nickel or cobalt.
- 15. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin according to claim 13 wherein said water soluble metal salt is a chloride, chlorate, hydroxide, nitrate, borate, iodate, thiosulfate or sulfate.
- 16. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin according to claim 12 wherein said at least one second additive is t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 17. A plastisol for use in the production of whitened polyvinyl chloride foam comprising a dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of the dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and iii) mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally containing at least one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 18. A whitened polyvinyl chloride foam produced by heating a plastisol comprising a dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of the dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and iii) mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally containing at least one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 19. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin for use in the production of whitened polyvinyl chloride foam comprising vinyl chloride polymer and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of said dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein R further comprises at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl, a carboxyl, and combinations thereof and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and iii) mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally containing at least one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 20. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin for use in the production of whitened polyvinyl chloride foam comprising vinyl chloride polymer and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of said dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein R further comprises at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl, a carboxyl, and combinations thereof and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and iii) mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally containing at least one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 21. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin for use in a plastisol containing dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin for the production of whitened polyvinyl chloride foam, said dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin comprising vinyl chloride polymer and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of said dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1to 12 carbon atoms and wherein R further comprises at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl, a carboxyl, and combinations thereof and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and iii) mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally comprising at least one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 22. A dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin for use in a plastisol containing dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin for the production of whitened polyvinyl chloride foam, said dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin comprising vinyl chloride polymer and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of said dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride blending resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein R further comprises at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl, a carboxyl, and combinations thereof and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and iii) mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally comprising at least one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 23. A plastisol for use in the production of whitened polyvinyl chloride foam comprising a dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of the dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein R further comprises at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl, a carboxyl, and combinations thereof and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and iii) mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally containing at least one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 24. A plastisol for use in the production of whitened polyvinyl chloride foam comprising a dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of the dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein R further comprises at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl, a carboxyl, and combinations thereof and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and iii) mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally containing at least one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 25. A whitened polyvinyl chloride foam produced by heating a plastisol comprising a dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of the dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1to 12 carbon atoms and wherein R further comprises at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl, a carboxyl, and combinations thereof and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and iii) mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally containing at least one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
- 26. A whitened polyvinyl chloride foam produced by heating a plastisol comprising a dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin and(A) from about 0.01 to about 5 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of the dry, particulate polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin of at least one first additive selected from the group consisting of: i) a sulfonic acid derivative having the formula R—SO3M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein M is selected from hydrogen and monovalent metals; ii) a sulfinic acid derivative having the formula R—SO2M wherein R is an alkyl, alkylaryl or an arylalkyl group consisting from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and wherein R further comprises at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl, a carboxyl, and combinations thereof and wherein M is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and monovalent metals; and iii) mercapto acetic acid sodium salt; (B) and optionally containing at I east one second additive selected from the group consisting of: i) at least one water soluble metal salt selected from the group consisting of water soluble salts of alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals and transition metals; and ii) t-butyl hydroperoxide.
