Pool cue chalk with rougher

Abstract

An apparatus for use in the game of pool. The apparatus comprises a substantially cubic block having at least one indented portion on at least one face of the substantially cubic block with pool chalk disposed in such indented portion. There is a gritted material used as a covering for at least one face of the substantially cubic block and a predetermined plurality of raised paper edges covering certain predetermined edge portions of the substantially cubic block for preventing scratching when setting the apparatus on a wooden surface.

Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates, in general, to the game of pool, and, more specifically the present invention relates to a pool cue chalk that has a rougher and shaper integrated therein.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The game of pool has always been a popular game. In years past one had to go to a pool hall to be able to enjoy the game. However, in recent years the availability of pool tables and related equipment for individual's homes has made the game much more accessible to the average person. Also, the environment in the home is much more desirable. This makes for an ever increasing popularity of the game.

This increased popularity is accompanied by a need for more of the ancillary items to be made available to the general public.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Thus, the present invention provides an apparatus for use in the game of pool. The apparatus comprises a substantially cubic block having at least one indented portion on at least one face of the substantially cubic block with pool chalk disposed in such indented portion. There is a gritted material used as a covering for at least one face of the substantially cubic block and a predetermined plurality of raised paper edges covering certain predetermined edge portions of the substantially cubic block for preventing scratching when setting the apparatus on a wooden surface.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

It is, therefore, one of the primary objects of the present invention to provide a pool cue chalk that has a rougher built therein.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a pool cue chalk that has a shaper as part of the pool cue chalk.

Still another object of the present invention is to provide a pool cue chalk that is available to the average player.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a pool cue chalk that has an indented area on the top and bottom of the pool cue.

These and various other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent after a full reading of the following detailed description, particularly, when read in conjunction with the attached drawings as described below and the appended claims.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENTLY PREFERRED AND ALTERNATE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION

Prior to proceeding with the more detailed description of the present invention it should be noted that, for the sake of clarity, identical components which have identical functions have been designated by identical reference numerals throughout the several views illustrated in the drawings.

Thus, the present invention provides an apparatus, generally designated 10, for use in the game of pool. As illustrated in FIGS. 1-4 the apparatus comprises a substantially cubic block 2 having at least one indented portion 4 on at least one face of the substantially cubic block 2 with pool chalk disposed in such indented portion 4 as would be in a normal pool cue chalk. There is a gritted material 6 used as a covering for at least one face of the substantially cubic block 2 and a predetermined plurality of raised paper edges 8 covering certain predetermined edge portions of the substantially cubic block 2 for preventing scratching when setting the apparatus 10 on a wooden surface.

The present invention provides an apparatus 10 that is an improvement to the standard pool cue chalk. The apparatus 10 is basically a pool cue chalk that has a rougher and a shaper integrated therein.

Many pool players purchase shapers and roughers for the tips of their own pool cues. People that use “house” cues do not have roughers or shapers readily available for their cues. Thus, the present invention makes shapers and roughers readily available to the average player. Un-roughened cue tips make controlling a pool shot difficult. Using a rougher that is integrated into the pool cue chalk would offer players a more controlled shot.

The present invention provides a standard pool cue chalk with a rougher and a incorporated therein. The standard pool cue chalk is covered with a gritted material 6, such as sandpaper, to allow tips to be roughened. Each of the faces of the cube may have different textured gritted material 6 disposed thereon. Since there are four sides, or really five faces if there is no shaper formed on the fifth face, of the substantially cubic block 2 that may be covered with the gritted material. Thus, there could be a different textured gritted material on each of the four faces and possible the fifth face. This would allow the user to choose the texture that is best for roughing their cue.

The bottom face of the cube, that is the face directly opposite the face that has the indented surface with chalk disposed therein, may include a second indented surface with a gritted material disposed therein which serves as a shaper for the pool cue tip.

At least four of the edges of the cube consist of thick raised paper to prevent scratching the surface of the table or any wood surface when the chalk is not in use. In this case the four edges would be the edges surrounding one face so that face could be used to set the apparatus down without scratching a surface. It is presently preferred that all of the edges of the cube have the thick raised paper disposed thereon.

While a presently preferred embodiment and alternate embodiments of the present invention has been described in detail above, it should be understood that various other adaptations and/or modifications of the invention can be made by those persons who are particularly skilled in the art without departing from either the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

Claims

1. An apparatus for use in a game of pool, said apparatus comprising: (a) a substantially cubic block having at least one indented portion on at least one face of said substantially cubic block with pool chalk disposed in said indented portion; (b) a gritted material used as a covering for at least one face of said substantially cubic block; and (c) a predetermined plurality of raised paper edges covering certain predetermined edge portions of said substantially cubic block for preventing scratching when setting said apparatus on a wooden surface.

2. The apparatus, according to claim 1, wherein said gritted material is disposed on a plurality of faces of said substantially cubic block.

3. The apparatus, according to claim 2, wherein a different textured gritted material is used on each of said plurality of faces of said substantially cubic block.

4. The apparatus, according to claim 2, wherein said gritted material is sandpaper.

5. The apparatus, according to claim 4, wherein a different texture sandpaper is used on each of said plurality of faces of said substantially cubic block.

6. The apparatus, according to claim 1, wherein said apparatus includes at least two indented portions.

7. The apparatus, according to claim 6, wherein a second indented portion is disposed on a radially opposed face of said at least one face of said substantially cubic block having said at least one indented portion disposed therein.

8. The apparatus, according to claim 7, wherein said second indented portion is covered with a gritted material which serves as a shaper for said apparatus.

9. The apparatus, according to claim 1, wherein said certain predetermined edge portions of said substantially cubic block includes four raised paper edges covering all edges of one face of said substantially cubic block.

10. The apparatus, according to claim 1, wherein said certain predetermined edge portions of said substantially cubic block includes all edges of said substantially cubic block.

11. The apparatus, according to claim 1, wherein said gritted material is disposed on five faces of said substantially cubic block.
