Portable book holder

Abstract

This new and improved reading apparatus will allow a person to read a book or magazine while their hands are free to perform task, such as, holding a child, talking on a cell phone, holding a strap on the train or bus, as well as, picking up luggage. The invention is made of a rigid plastic, wood, or metal sheet, approximately 9 inches wide and 12 inches long. A belt is attached to the bottom of the apparatus and then fastened around the reader's waist. The attachable belt is adjustable to fit people of any shape and size. A neck strap is attached to the top of the sheet and fastens around the users neck. The adjustable strap placed at a comfortable angle allows for ease of reading items, such as, a book, magazine, paper, newspaper, among other things.

[0005] This invention relates to support apparatus for reading materials. In particular the present invention relates to the creation of a Portable Book Holder. The Portable Book Holder will allow a person to read or write while their hands remain free to perform other tasks.

[0007] There are reading materials, which support devices well known in the prior art. An illustrious example of such art is found in U.S. Pat. No. 5,884,888. The invention is a uniquely illuminated, flexible, portable reading material support apparatus which permits the user to read easily under different circumstances such as, lying on the bed. The use of a special base, goose neck flexible support and swiveled attachment requires the connecting of a goose flexible support to a specially contoured reading support platform.

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION—OBJECTS AND ADVANTAGE

[0009] All the prior inventions are without a doubt are a valuable contribution to our society. However, neither of them surpasses the efficiency of the Portable Book Holder. The Portable Book Holder provides the advantage of reading almost anywhere. The Portable Book Holder should bring ease to people who like to study, review material for meetings or leisurely reading will in transit. It is light, easy to carry, put on, remove comfortable, and inexpensive to manufacture.

[0010] The materials required to produce the Portable Book Holder are all readily available and well known to manufacturers who produce goods of these types. The rigid sheet would be made of plastic through an injection molding process. Such a process would require the design and use of custom molds. Other materials such as sampled steel or even wood also are being considered. The remaining components of the inventions, namely the waist and neck strap, would easily be obtained from wholesalers and manufacturers that deal with goods of that nature. The relatively simple design of the invention and the materials required for construction make the Portable Book Holder a cost-effective item. The labor cost and minimal amount of material would make producing the Portable Book Holder cost effective. Manufacturing cost of producing the Portable Book Holder will require the use of an averaged skilled worker.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

[0011] The Portable Book Holder, as its name implies, is an apparatus that allows one to read and at the same time give the reader the freedom to perform other tasks with their hands. The invention will be produced using one or more of the following a rigid plastic, wood, or metal sheet that will be less than 9 inches wide and 12 inches long. An attachable belt is attached to the bottom of the sheet, which supports the book and is fastened around the waist. The belt can be adjusted to fit the shape and size of the user. It is supported by a neck strap, which is attached to the top of the sheet. The neck strap placed at a correct angle will allow for ease when reading materials, such as, books, magazines, papers and newspapers. The invention is envisioned as being useful on public transportation, where a user's hands may be occupied because they are holding a pole or strap or while waiting at an airport. A person using the Portable Book Holder may hold a child, beverage or grasp rails to prevent falling. The use of the Portable Book Holder makes reading material quick, easy and efficient.

Claims

1. A support apparatus for the purpose of holding books and other reading materials in a stable position. This invention will allow a person to remain hands free, with the opportunity to perform other task. A flat rectangular rigid plastic, wood or metal sheet, approximately 9 inches wide and 12 inches long. A flexible support neck strap attached to the top of the sheet. An adjustable belt attached to the bottom of the sheet.

2. A portable book holder apparatus for the purpose of holding books or other reading materials according to claim “1” wherein the rigid sheet is made of plastic.

3. A portable book holder apparatus according to claim “2” wherein the rigid sheet is made of a light wood or plastic.

4. A portable book holder apparatus according to claim “3” wherein the rigid sheet is made of metal.

5. A portable book holder apparatus according to claim “1” wherein a belt is adjusted to fit people of all shapes and sizes.

6. A portable book holder apparatus according to claim “1” wherein a neck strap is adjusted thus allowing the sheet to be placed at the correct angle.
