Claims
- 1. A portable computer system comprising:
- a base housing including a front portion having a keyboard and a rear portion having a rear top surface and a rear side surface continuous with the rear top surface, the rear portion including a first receiving recess being open to the rear top and the rear side surfaces and a second receiving recess being open to the rear top and the rear side surfaces, the second receiving recess including an inner wall having an insertion hole;
- a connector disposed entirely in the base housing and proximate to the insertion hole;
- a battery pack, removably stored in the first receiving recess, having a pack side surface being approximately flush with the rear side surface and a pack top surface being approximately flush with the rear top surface when the battery pack is stored in the first receiving recess;
- a recess cover, removably covering the second receiving recess, having a cover top surface being approximately flush with the rear top surface and a cover side surface being approximately flush with the rear side surface when the second receiving recess is covered by the recess cover;
- a modem card, disposed behind the recess cover and removably mounted in the second receiving recess, having a first connecting portion entirely disposed behind the recess cover, the first connecting portion being positioned proximate to the insertion hole when the modem card is stored in the second receiving recess and the recess cover covers the second receiving recess; and
- an adapter, removably coupling to the connector and the modem card, having a second connecting portion removably coupling to the connector when the adapter is inserted into the insertion hole and a third connecting portion removably coupling to the first connecting portion to electrically couple the connector to the modem card when the modem card is stored in the second receiving recess.
- 2. A portable computer according to claim 1, wherein the adapter comprises a printed circuit board including a first edge having the second connecting portion and a second edge having the third connecting portion.
- 3. A portable electronic apparatus comprising:
- a base housing including a rear portion having a rear top surface and a rear side surface continuous with the rear top surface, the rear portion including a first receiving recess and a second receiving recess, the second receiving recess including an inner wall having an insertion hole;
- a connector disposed entirely in the base housing and proximate to the insertion hole;
- a battery pack, removably stored in the first receiving recess;
- an optional card having a first connecting portion;
- a case holding the optional card and removably covering the second receiving recess, the first connecting portion being entirely disposed behind the case; and
- an adapter, removably coupling to the connector and the optional card, having a second connecting portion removably coupling to the connector when the adapter is inserted into the insertion hole and a third connecting portion removably coupling to the first connecting portion to electrically couple the connector to the optional card when the case is stored in the second receiving recess.
- 4. A portable electronic apparatus system according to claim 3, wherein the optional card is a modem card.
- 5. A portable electronic apparatus system comprising:
- a base housing including a receiving recess having an inner wall, the inner wall having an insertion hole and a first terminal therein;
- a connector disposed entirely in the base housing and proximate to the insertion hole;
- a battery pack, removably stored in the receiving recess, having a second terminal coupling to the first terminal when the battery pack is stored in the receiving recess;
- an optional component having a first connecting portion disposed entirely therein, said optional component being removably stored in the receiving recess in place of the battery pack when the battery pack is removed; and
- an adapter, removably coupling to the connector and the optional component, having a second connecting portion removably coupling to the connector when the adapter is inserted into the insertion hole and a third connecting portion removably coupling to the first connecting portion to electrically couple the connector to the optional component when the optional component is stored in the receiving recess.
- 6. A portable electronic apparatus system according to claim 5, wherein the optional component includes a modem card.
- 7. A portable electronic apparatus system according to claim 5, wherein the inner wall has an inner bottom surface and an inner front surface continuous with the inner bottom surface, the insertion hole being disposed in the inner front surface.
- 8. A portable electronic apparatus system according to claim 7, wherein the first terminal is disposed in the inner front surface.
- 9. A portable electronic apparatus system according to claim 8, wherein the battery pack has a pack front surface facing to the inner front surface when the battery pack is stored in the receiving recess, the second terminal being disposed in the pack front surface.
- 10. A portable electronic apparatus system according to claim 7, wherein the optional component includes a printed circuit board, the first connecting portion being disposed on the printed circuit board.
- 11. A portable electronic apparatus system according to claim 10, wherein the printed circuit board is substantially parallel to the inner bottom surface when the printed circuit board is stored in the receiving recess.
- 12. A portable electronic apparatus system according to claim 11, wherein the adapter comprises an extension board, the second and the third connecting portions are disposed on the extension board.
- 13. A portable electronic apparatus system according to claim 11, wherein the extension board is substantially parallel to the inner bottom surface when the second connecting portion is coupled to the connector.
- 14. A portable computer system comprising:
- a base housing including a rear portion having a rear top surface and a rear side surface continuous with the rear top surface, the rear portion including a first receiving recess open to the rear top and the rear side surfaces and a second receiving recess open to the rear top and the rear side surfaces, the second receiving recess including an inner wall having an insertion hole;
- a connector disposed entirely in the base housing and proximate to the insertion hole;
- a battery pack, removably stored in the first receiving recess, having a pack side surface being approximately flush with the rear top surface when the battery pack is stored in the first receiving recess;
- a recess cover, removably covering the second receiving recess, having a cover side surface being substantially flush with the rear side surface when the second receiving recess is covered by the recess cover;
- a modem card, attached to the recess cover, having a first connecting portion entirely disposed behind the recess cover and positioned proximate to the insertion hole when the modem card is stored in the second receiving recess; and
- an adapter having a second connecting portion removably coupling to the connector when the adapter is inserted into the insertion hole and a third connecting portion removably coupling to the first connecting portion to electrically couple the connector to the modem card when the modem card is stored in the second receiving recess.
