1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a portable sunscreen for providing protection for a child or infant.
2. Description of Related Art
As is well known individuals must take measures to protect themselves from UV rays that are emitted through sunlight. UV radiation is emitted from the sun and although a large percentage of the UV radiation is blocked by the earth's ozone layer a portion of the UV radiation reaches the earth's surface. Long exposure to the sun can cause sunburn and in the worse cases skin cancer. Further eyes are sensitive to UV radiation and many people wear sunglasses as a protection from the sunlight. In order to protect the individuals skin some individuals apply sunscreen as a lotion or ointment to protect the skin and block UV radiation from penetrating or burning the skin.
In recent years it has been imperative to protect children from UV radiation and sun exposure. Moreover it is particularly important to protect infants from over exposure to sun. Small canopies have been developed for car seats strollers and other devices in order to protect a child from sun exposure. Further many children may wear special clothing that provides a means for sun protection. Although some means and devices have been developed for children sun protection further devices are needed to address this issue. In particular, it would be advantageous to have a portable sun shading screen which could be placed as a means to block UV rays upon a stroller or car seat.
The present invention relates to a sunlight blocker for blocking UV light comprising: a sunscreen; an arm extending from the sunscreen; a coiled portion extending from the arm at an opposite end of the sunscreen; and an opening within the coil. The coiled portion enables the user to adjust the position of the sunscreen. In one particular embodiment, a mesh material covers the arm and coiled portion.
The present invention relates to a light-blocking device to be utilized with an infant stroller or a car seat as a means to block sunlight. The light blocker according to the present invention is portable and interchangeable to many devices that are used to transport children such as strollers or car seats. The sunlight blocker according to the present invention attaches to the car seat or stroller and places a screen between the child and the sunlight and therefore shades the child from harmful UV rays.
The arm 19 is made of flexible material so that a user may maneuver the sunscreen 15 in a suitable position but the material for the arm 19 is rigid enough to maintain the sunscreen 15 in a stationary position. The arm 19 and coil 17 may be covered with a mesh material that is soft, furry and gentle to touch conducive for use with a child. The coiled portion 17 enables the user to easily adjust the position of the sunscreen 15 to block UV rays from being directed upon a child or infant in a stroller or car seat.
The sunlight blocker 100 according to the present invention is very transportable and easily stowed when not in use. It provides convenient and readily accessible shade for the child or infant who may be in a stroller or car seat.
