Claims
- 1. A method for controlling a welding for welding along a welding line having a gap, employing a welding wire, comprising the steps of:
- detecting an image of an arc with an image pickup device located at a position to view an arc in a region to be welded, weaving the arc back and forth across the welding line between first and second positions on opposite sides of the welding line, said first and second positions being the positions of maximum distance of the arc from said welding line at opposite sides of said welding line, said welding wire forming an inflection point C in said image;
- scanning said detecting image in a direction perpendicular to the welding line when said arc is in said first position, measuring distances l.sub.1 and l.sub.2 between said welding line and opposite sides of said image along the scanning line, said scanning line including said inflection point C, and comparing amplitude of said distance l.sub.1 and l.sub.2 ;
- scanning said detected image in a direction perpendicular to the welding line when said arc is in said second position, measuring distances l.sub.3 and l.sub.4 between said welding line and opposite sides of said image along the scanning line to the welding line, said scanning line including said inflection point C, and comparing amplitude of said distances l.sub.3 and l.sub.4 ; and
- controlling the amplitudes of weaving of said arc to maintain the result of the comparison of l.sub.1 and l.sub.2 and the comparison of l.sub.3 and l.sub.4 within predetermined limits.
- 2. A method for controlling an arc welding torch in the welding of a first plate to a second plate along a welding groove, with a welding wire, the first plate being spaced from the second plate by a gap, comprising the steps of:
- detecting an image of an arc for welding said plates, with an image pickup device located at a position to view an arc in a region to be welded, whereby said image has an inflection point corresponding to said wire;
- weaving said arc across said welding groove to define first and second positions at which said arc is the maximum distance from opposite sides of said welding groove;
- scanning said image perpendicular to said welding groove, at said inflection point, to determine the distances between the image of the welding groove and opposite sides of said image, at said first and second positions of said arc; and
- controlling the weaving of said arc to maintain the relationships between said distances between the image of the welding groove and the sides of said image, at said first and second positions, within predetermined limits.
