Claims
- 1. A cathode material for a lithium electrochemical device comprising:a potassium-manganese mixed metal oxide having the general formula LixKyMnO2, where y<0.5 and x+y<1.0; a reversible region where 0.0<x<1.0−y; said potassium-manganese mixed metal oxide preventing a phase change; said potassium-manganese mixed metal oxide being Li0.375K0.125MnO2; and said cathode material permits a cathode to have an initial specific capacity of about 130 mAhrs/g, to be fully reversible and to provide a coulombic efficiency of at least 95 percent.
- 2. A cathode for a lithium electrochemical device comprising:potassium-manganese mixed metal oxide cathode having the general formula LixKyMnO2, where y<0.5 and x+y<1.0 and a reversible region where 0.0<x<1.0−y; said cathode preventing a phase change, having an initial specific capacity of 130 mAhrs/g; being fully reversible and being composed of Li0.375K0.125MnO2; and said cathode having a coulombic efficiency of at least 95 percent, a discharge capacity at two thirds of an initial discharge through 90 cycles and a 90 percent energy efficiency charge.
- 3. The cathode for a lithium electrochemical device, as recited in claim 2, further comprising said cathode being installed in a battery.
- 4. A lithium electrochemical device, comprising:an anode; an electrolyte; a potassium-manganese mixed metal oxide cathode having the general formula LixKyMnO2, where y<0.5 and x+y<1.0 and a reversible region where 0.0<x<1.0−y; said cathode preventing a phase change, having an initial specific capacity of 130 mAhrs/g, being fully reversible and being composed of Li0.375K0.125MnO2; said device having a coulombic efficiency of at least 95 percent, a discharge capacity at two thirds of an initial discharge through 90 cycles and a 90 percent energy efficiency charge; and said device is a battery.
