Claims
- 1. Processing apparatus adapted to be selectively engaged and driven by a moving processing line carrying successive objects to be processed, comprising:
- (a) frame means supported for selective adjustment toward and away from a moving processing line;
- (b) processing apparatus supported on said frame means, said processing apparatus including means for performing a processing operation on objects moving along said processing line;
- (c) drive means on said frame means supported for selective engagement with said moving processing line, said drive means operable for effecting operation of said processing apparatus;
- (d) adjustment means operatively connecting said frame means and said processing line, said adjustment means being operable for moving said drive means between operable and inoperable positions into and out of engagement with said moving processing line; and
- (e) adjustably supported guide means for guiding and holding objects to be processed in engagement with said processing apparatus when in an operable adjusted position and for guiding and holding objects to be processed out of engagement with said processing apparatus when in an inoperable position, wherein said guide means includes linkage support means operatively connected to said frame adjustment means whereby said guide means is automatically moved to said operable object guiding position in response to movement of said frame means into said operable line engaging drive position and is automatically moved to said inoperable object guiding position in response to movement of said frame means to said displaced inoperable position.
- 2. Processing apparatus as defined in claim 1 further characterized in that said apparatus is designed for processing poultry supported on individual shackle elements and being advanced along a processing line in a poultry processing operation and wherein said processing apparatus includes mechanism for performing a poultry processing step in response to said apparatus being supported in adjusted operative engagement with said processing line.
- 3. Processing apparatus as defined in claim 2 further characterized in that said guide means includes guide bars supported for operable engagement with the poultry supporting shackles and operable for holding and guiding the shackles and their supported birds in the adjusted operable position and in the displaced inoperable position.
- 4. Processing apparatus as defined in claim 3 further characterized in that said poultry processing apparatus includes means for removing the oil sac from a bird being advanced along the processing line.
- 5. Processing apparatus as defined in claim 3 further characterized in that said poultry processing apparatus includes means for breaking the neck of a bird being advanced along the processing line.
- 6. Processing apparatus as defined in claim 3 further characterized in that said poultry processing mechanisms are supported on a number of module support means carried by endless drive means, with the modules being advanced by the drive means in timed relationship with movement the birds moving along the processing line.
- 7. Processing apparatus as defined in claim 6 further characterized in that said processing mechanisms include means for removing the oil sac from a bird and for breaking the neck of a bird being advanced along the processing line.
- 8. Processing apparatus as defined in claim 7 further characterized in that said processing mechanisms include movable components operable for performing said oil sac removing and said neck breaking and wherein said frame means include a number of cam track means and said movable components include cam follower means whereby movement of said modules along said processing line will cause said cam follower means to be advanced into contact with and along said cam track means to effect operation of said processing mechanisms.
- 9. Processing apparatus as defined by claim 8 further characterized in that said processing apparatus includes means for identifying the elevation of components of a bird moving along the processing line, said frame means includes cam track means for adjusting the said identifying means and wherein said cam track means is automatically adjustable to develop a predetermined pressure on said identifying means.
