Claims
- 1. A nonreciprocal microwave signal power divider comprising:
- an N-port circulator including one input port and N-1 output ports,
- a two-port isomismatch device coupled to and in series with each of the N-1 circulator output ports respectively, the one of the two isomismatch ports coupled to said circulator being an input port and the other port being an output port of the divider,
- each isomismatch device having means for absorbing all signal power input to its output port,
- the isomismatch device coupled to the last circulator port, in the order of rotation from the circulator input port, transmitting substantially all of the incident microwave signal power from the last circulator port,
- each of the isomismatches coupled to the other circulator output ports having means for transmitting a predetermined fraction of the microwave signal power incident from the respective circulator port and reflecting the remainder back toward the respective circulator port, to divide the microwave signal power incident to the circulator input port into predetermined fractions that sum to substantially the signal power input to the circulator.
- 2. A nonreciprocal microwave plural signal combiner comprising:
- a circulator having one output port defining the combiner output and a plurality of input ports, and
- an isoreflector device coupled to each of the input ports, each isoreflector device being a two-port device and having means to transmit substantially all power incident to one of its ports and to reflect substantially all power incident to its other port, the reflecting port of each isoreflector being coupled to a respective input port of the circulator, said one port of each isoreflector defining the combiner input.
- 3. An isomismatch for use in the presence of a transverse intersecting d-c magnetic field comprising:
- a metal plate having a rectangular recess surrounded by a perimeter wall,
- the opposed narrower sides of the perimeter wall each having a perforation in line with each other,
- an input and an output coaxial transmission line coupling nested in the two perforations,
- a ferrite sheet overlaying the bottom surface of the rectangular recess,
- a conductor strip on the ferrite sheet and extending end-to-end of the ferrite sheet and having two parallel rectilinear edges, one of which edges is substantially in line with the center conductors of the transmission line couplings and with its ends in electrical contact with the center conductors of the transmission line couplings, an impedance matching exponential taper between the two parallel edges at the end of the conductor strip adjacent the output transmission line coupling, the end of the conductor strip connected to the input transmission line coupling having a step followed by an impedance matching exponential taper for reflecting a predetermined fraction of incident microwave energy, and
- an energy attenuation strip on the ferrite and abutting the other edge of the conductor strip.
- 4. An isoreflector for use in the presence of a transverse intersecting d-c magnetic field comprising:
- a metal plate having a rectangular recess surrounded by a perimeter wall,
- the opposed narrower sides of the perimeter wall each having a perforation in line with each other,
- an input and an output coaxial transmission line coupling nested in the two perforations,
- a ferrite sheet overlaying the bottom surface of the rectangular recess,
- a conductor strip on the ferrite sheet and extending end-to-end of the ferrite sheet and having two parallel rectilinear edges, one of which edges is substantially in line with the center conductors of the transmission line couplings and with its ends in electrical contact with the center conductors of the transmission line couplings, the ends of the conductor strip having an impedance matching exponential taper between the two parallel edges at both ends of the conductor strip, the other edge of the conductor strip having a plurality of notches, and
- dielectric resonators having spaced resonances respectively within a predetermined frequency band nested in the notches in the conductor strip and seated on the ferrite.
