Claims
- 1. A power system for providing power to a load, the system comprising:
a first power source; a second power source, independent of said first power source; a rotary device having a primary power input circuit and a secondary power input circuit, said primary power input circuit and said secondary power input circuit providing power to a motor generator in said rotary device; said second power source coupled to said rotary device at said secondary power input circuit; and, a transfer switch for selectively coupling said first power source to said primary power input circuit and said secondary power input circuit.
- 2. The power system of claim 1 wherein said first power source comprises a fuel cell and said second power source is the electric utility grid.
- 3. The power system of claim 1 wherein said second power source comprises an on-site generator.
- 4. The power system of claim 1 wherein said second power source comprises a fuel cell.
- 5. The power system of claim 1 wherein said rotary device comprises a rotary condenser.
- 6. The power system of claim 1 wherein a third power source is coupled to said rotary device.
- 7. The power system of claim 6 wherein said third power source is parallel connected with said first power source at the first power input circuit.
- 8. The power system of claim 6 wherein said third power source is parallel connected with said second power source at the second power input circuit.
- 9. The power system of claim 6 wherein said third power source comprises a flywheel.
- 10. The power system of claim 6 wherein said third power source comprises generator.
- 11. The power system of claim 6 wherein said third power source comprises electric storage batteries.
- 12. A power system for providing power to a load, the system comprising:
a first power module including:
a first power source; a second power source, independent of said first power source; a rotary device having a primary power input circuit and a secondary power input circuit; said second power source coupled to said rotary device at said secondary power input circuit; and, a transfer switch for selectively coupling said first power source to said primary power input circuit and said secondary power input circuit; and; a second power module including:
a first power source; a second power source, independent of said first power source; a rotary device having a primary power input circuit and a secondary power input circuit; said second power source coupled to said rotary device at said secondary power input circuit; and, a transfer switch for selectively coupling said first power source to said primary power input circuit and said secondary power input circuit.
- 13. The power system of claim 12 further comprising:
a common bus coupled to an output of said first power module and coupled to an output of said second power module.
- 14. The power system of claim 12 further comprising:
a first bus coupled to an output of said first power module; and, a second bus, independent of said first bus, coupled to an output of said second power module.
- 15. The power system of claim 14 further comprising:
a tie-breaker included between said first and second independent buses.
- 16. A power system for providing power to a critical load, the system comprising:
a fuel cell generating electric power at a fuel cell output, said fuel cell providing a primary source of power to the critical load; a second power source, independent of said fuel cell, said second power source producing sufficient power to supply the critical load, said second power source providing a back-up source of power to the critical load when said fuel cell output decreases; a rotary device having a power input circuit, the critical load receiving power from said rotary device; and, a transfer switch for selectively coupling said fuel cell and said second power source to said power input circuit.
- 17. The power system of claim 16 wherein said second power source is an electric utility grid.
- 18. The power system of claim 16 wherein said second power source comprises an on-site generator.
- 19. The power system of claim 16 wherein said second power source comprises a fuel cell.
- 20. The power system of claim 16 wherein said rotary device comprises a motor-generator.
- 21. The power system of claim 16 wherein said rotary device comprises a rotary condenser.
- 22. The power system of claim 16 further comprising:
a third power source generating electric power; said third power source being connected to said power input circuit.
- 23. The power system of claim 22 wherein said third power source is a rotary device.
- 24. The power system of claim 23 wherein said third power source is a flywheel.
- 25. The power system of claim 22 wherein said power input circuit includes:
a rectifier having a rectifier input coupled to said fuel cell and a rectifier output; an inverter having an inverter input coupled to said rectifier output and an inverter output; wherein said third power source is coupled to said inverter input.
- 26. A power system for providing power to a load, the system comprising:
a fuel cell generating electric power at a fuel cell output; a rotary device having a power input circuit coupled to said fuel cell output; a second fuel cell generating electric power at a second fuel cell output; and a second rotary device having a second power input circuit coupled to said second fuel cell output; wherein said first rotary device and said second rotary device power a common bus coupled to the load.
- 27. A power system for providing power to a load, the system comprising:
a fuel cell generating electric power at a fuel cell output; a flywheel generating electric power at a flywheel output; a rotary device having a power input circuit coupled to said fuel cell output and said flywheel output; said rotary device having a motor-generator powered from said power input circuit, said motor-generator generating power for the load.
- 28. The power system of claim 27 wherein said power input circuit includes:
a rectifier having a rectifier input coupled to said fuel cell and a rectifier output; an inverter having an inverter input coupled to said rectifier output and an inverter output coupled to said motor-generator; wherein said flywheel is coupled to said inverter input.
