Claims
- 1. A shutter manufacturing method comprising the steps of:
applying a first laminate to a surface of a substrate to form a laminated sheet; cutting said laminated sheet to a predetermined width to form a laminated board; milling an edge of said laminated board to form a milled edge; applying a second laminate to said milled edge; cutting said laminated board to a predetermined length to form a prefinished shutter component; and assembling said prefinished shutter component into a shutter.
- 2. The shutter manufacturing method according to claim 1 wherein said prefinished shutter component is a louver, said method comprising the further steps of:
drilling a link hole into said milled edge; and gluing a link into said link hole.
- 3. The shutter manufacturing method according to claim 1 wherein said prefinished shutter component is a louver, said method comprising the further steps of:
drilling a pin hole in an end of said prefinished shutter component; and applying said second laminate to said end over said pin hole.
- 4. The shutter manufacturing method according to claim 3 comprising the further step of press fitting a pin into said pin hole through said second laminate.
- 5. The shutter manufacturing method according to claim 3 comprising the further step of threading an anchor into said pin hole.
- 6. The shutter manufacturing method according to claim 1 wherein:
said substrate is medium density fiberboard (MDF); said first laminate is a hot roll laminate of decorative paper; and said second laminate is a heat transfer foil.
- 7. A shutter comprising:
a pair of stiles each having a pair of opposite stile faces, a pair of opposite stile edges and a pair of opposite stile ends; a pair of spreaders each having a pair of opposite spreader faces, a pair of opposite spreader edges, and a pair of opposite spreader ends, said spreaders each fixedly attached between said stiles so as to form a frame; a plurality of louvers each having a pair of opposite louver faces, a pair of opposite louver edges, and a pair of opposite louver ends, said louver ends rotatably mounted to inside ones of said stile edges so that said louvers are within said rectangular opening; and said stile faces, said spreader faces and said louver faces having a first laminate; and at least one each of said stile edges, said spreader edges and said louver edges having a second laminate.
- 8. The shutter according to claim 7 further comprising a plurality of frame stabilizers located at a predetermined spacing along said stiles.
- 9. The shutter according to claim 8 wherein said spacing is no greater than about 24 inches.
- 10. The shutter according to claim 8 wherein each of said frame stabilizers comprises:
a selected one of said louvers; a pin hole drilled within one of said louver ends corresponding to said selected one of said louvers; an anchor fixedly mounted within said pin hole; and a tensioning screw adjustably retained within one of said stiles and threaded into said anchor so as to control the rotation of said louvers and stabilize said frame.
- 11. The shutter according to claim 10 wherein said anchor comprises a plurality of coarse threads adapted to grip within said pin hole.
- 12. The shutter according to claim 11 wherein the number of said threads is at least about 9.
- 13. The shutter according to claim 10 further comprising:
a drilled link hole located along a leading one of said louver edges; a link glued with said link hole.
- 14. The shutter according to claim 13 wherein said stiles, said spreaders and said louvers each have a medium density fiberboard (MDF) core and wherein:
said first laminate is a hot roll paper laminate; and said second laminate is a heat transfer foil.
- 15. The shutter according to claim 14 wherein:
said stiles have a thickness in the range of about ¾to 1¼ inches; and said spreaders have a thickness in the range of about ⅝ b to 1¼ inches.
- 16. A shutter manufacturing method comprising the steps of:
coating a plurality of attached shutter components; separating said attached shutter components into a plurality of prefinished shutter components; and incorporating said prefinished shutter components into a shutter assembly.
- 17. The shutter manufacturing method according to claim 16 wherein said attached shutter components comprise a board and said separating step comprises the step of cutting attached end portions of said attached shutter components.
- 18. The shutter manufacturing method according to claim 16 wherein said attached shutter components comprise a sheet and said separating step comprises the step of cutting along edge portions of said attached shutter components.
- 19. The shutter manufacturing method according to claim 18 further comprising the step of coating a cut edge portion of said attached shutter components.
- 20. The shutter manufacturing method according to claim 19 further comprising the step of cutting along end portions of said attached shutter components.
