Claims
- 1. 1,3,5-Triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB) having a particle size of about 0.2 to about 0.3 microns in diameter prepared by the method of:mixing commercially obtained TATB with dimethylsulfoxide; heating the mixture to a temperature in the range of from about 108° C. to about 195° C. and stirring to dissolve the TATB; injecting the solution into cold water to cause it to precipitate; filtering the resultant precipitate of the TATB product and washing it several times with deionized water to remove solvents and other impurities; and collecting the washed precipitate.
- 2. TATB of claim 1 wherein the surface area of said TATB product is greater than 3.5 m2/gm.
- 3. TATB of claim 1 wherein the surface area of said TATB product is in the range of from about 3.8 to 27 m2/gm.
- 4. 1,3,5-Triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB) having a particle size of about 0.2 to about 0.3 microns in diameter prepared by the method of:mixing commercially obtained TATB with dimethylsulfoxide; adding enough alkali to the mixture such that the molar ratio of alkali: TATB in the final solution is about 1.5:1; mixing with an aqueous solution of an acid to neutralize any remaining alkali; collecting the resultant precipitate of the TATB product; and washing it several times with deionized water to remove solvent and impurities.
- 5. TATB of claim 4 wherein the surface area of said TATB product is greater than 3.5 m2/gm.
- 6. TATB of claim 4 wherein the surface area of said TATB product is in the range of from about 3.8 to 27 m2/gm.
- 7. 1,3,5-Triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB) having a particle size in the range of about 0.2 to about 0.3 microns in diameter prepared by the method of:mixing commercially obtaining TATB with a suitable solvent; adding enough alkali to the mixture to completely dissolve the TATB; adding to the mixture an aqueous solution of a suitable acid to neutralize any remaining alkali; collecting the resultant precipitate of the TATB product; and washing said precipitate several times with deionized water to remove solvent and impurities.
- 8. The TATB prepared by the method of claim 7, wherein said TATB product has a surface area greater than 3.5 m2/gm.
- 9. The TATB prepared by the method of claim 7, wherein said TATB product has a surface area in the range of about 4 to about 15 m2/gm.
