Claims
- 1. A process for the preparation of a compound of general formula
- 2. The process of claim 1 further comprising:
lithiating a compound of general formula R—H wherein R is hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl, with a compound of general formula Q-Li wherein Q represents an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl group, in a solvent comprising an ether compound of general formula E1-O-E2 wherein each of E1 and E2 independently represent an optionally substituted alkyl group or an optionally substituted aryl group, and having a boiling point of at least 40° C. at atmospheric pressure to produce a compound of general formula R1—Li; and, reacting said resulting compound with a compound of general formula Hal2P-L wherein Hal represents a halogen atom and L represents a leaving group, in a solvent comprising an ether compound of general formula E1-O-E2 wherein each of E1 and E2 independently represent an optionally substituted alkyl group or an optionally substituted aryl group, and having a boiling point of at least 40° C. at atmospheric pressure.
- 3. The process of claim 1, wherein R is hydrocarbyl substituted with a polar moiety.
- 4. The process of claim 3, wherein R is aryl substituted with a polar moiety.
- 5. The process of claim 4, wherein R is a phenyl group that is ortho-substituted with a single polar moiety.
- 6. The process of claim 3, wherein the polar moiety is selected from the group consisting of halogen, haloalkoxy, alkoxy, amino, monoalkylamino, dialkylamino, aminoalkyl, monoalkyl-aminoalkyl, dialkyl-aminoalkyl, amido, monoalkylamido, dialkylamido, alkoxyalkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulfonyl, dialkylamidosulfonyl, alkylsulfonate, lithio-oxy, aryloxy, sulfonyl, and alkali metal sulfonate.
- 7. The process of claim 6, wherein the polar moiety is alkoxy or aryloxy.
- 8. The process of claim 7, wherein the polar moiety is methoxy or phenyloxy.
- 9. The process of claim 1, wherein L is —NR″2, —PR″2 or -ZR″ wherein Z is O or S and R″ is C1-C6 alkyl, or, when L is —NR″2 or —PR″2, the two R″ moieties taken together form an optionally substituted C4-C8 alkylene chain.
- 10. The process of claim 1, wherein Hal is chloro, bromo or iodo.
