Claims
- 1. An improved method for preparing titanium diboride powder consisting essentially of reacting, at a temperature in the range 600.degree.-1100.degree. C., boron trichloride with titanium powder in the presence of sufficient additional amount of titanium powder to act as chlorine acceptor, for a period of time sufficient to form titanium diboride powder product having a particle size in the range 0.001-0.1 microns.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
This invention, which resulted from a contract with the United States Department of Energy, relates generally to the preparation of metal boride powders suitable for use as refractory materials when sintered, and more specifically it relates to the preparation of submicron and amorphous metal boride powders by direct chemical synthesis.
