Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a device used for shaping and packing smoking material. More particularly, the present invention relates to a device which creates a product of thinly packed smoking material ready to be rolled into a smoking apparatus such as a cigarette, joint, blunt, or other smoking item. Still more particularly, the present invention packs and shapes loose smoking material into an even, thin, rectangular shape designed to fit on a rolling paper to provide an efficient and uniform method of rolling a cigarette or other smoking apparatus.

2. Description of the Prior Art

The act of smoking has existed for a long time. There are various apparatuses and methods of smoking including but not limited to cigarettes, pipes, hookahs, and a plethora of other devices. Additionally, there are various types of smoking materials. Primary smoking material consists of tobacco, marijuana, or other plant substances fit for smoking. The preparation for smoking a material consists of various activities which may include drying the smoking material, breaking it up into pieces which will fit into a smoking apparatus, and ensuring the correct density. If the smoking materials are packed too loosely, the cigarette may not have structure, or a pipe may burn too fast. If the materials are packed too densely, the cigarette or pipe may not properly light or stay ignited. Additionally, when assembling a cigarette or blunt or other rolled smoking apparatus, the smoking material may be different densities or consistencies throughout the apparatus.

Rolling cigarettes, blunts, or other smoking objects has been a popular method for the preparation of smoking. This method typically includes several items including a rolling paper or wrap, an optional filter, and the smoking material. The rolling paper or wrap may be a cigarette paper, clove paper, blunt wrapper, or other similar type of outer wrap. The smoking material may be a wide variety of ingredients but is typically a tobacco or marijuana plant. The plant is typically in the form of loose leaf or dried plant materials. The optional filter is designed to filter out unwanted chemicals and substances while allowing the desired chemicals and substances, in the form of smoke, to pass through.

The rolling method is performed by obtaining the desired amount of smoking material. The smoking material is broken up into the desired consistency and density and then placed on the rolling paper or wrap. The optional filter may be placed on one end of the rolling paper. The paper is then wrapped around the smoking material and filter and sealed. The manual method requires an amount of skill to obtain the correct density and consistency of the smoking material and provide for a properly rolled smoking apparatus. The smoking material may be of varying consistency and density which may damage the rolling paper, requiring the user to begin the process over again. The act of rolling the material into the paper may result in material being lost during the rolling as well as difficulties in rolling due to the dexterity and gentleness required to properly roll the smoking apparatus. Additionally, the smoking material may not be at the desired density or amount needed to properly roll the smoking apparatus. The smoking apparatus may not have sufficient structure to hold together during the act of smoking. Still further, the method may create bulges of bunched up smoking material.

What is needed is a device which allows a user to easily and efficiently organize and orient the smoking material in such a fashion that the smoking material may be easily wrapped or rolled into a smoking apparatus. Further, what is needed is a device which substantially uniformly distributes and packs the smoking material into a desired density. Still further, what is needed is a device which allows the user to create an appropriately shaped and appropriately packed unit of smoking material which may easily be rolled into a rolling paper, wrap, or other smoking apparatus.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

An embodiment of a press device 10 of the present invention is shown in FIGS. 1-4. The press device 10 includes a packing mold 30, a packing stamp 50, and a tray 70. The packing mold 30 has an inner edge 32, an outer edge 34, an inner space 36, and a bottom edge 38. The packing stamp 50 has a handle 52, a body 54, an outside 56, and a packing edge 58. The tray 70 has a surface 72.

The packing mold 30 is formed to hold smoking material 100 represented in FIGS. 6 and 7 in place on the tray 70. The inner edge 32 is shaped to form the desired shape of the smoking material 100. The bottom edge 38 of the packing mold 30 is designed to rest on the surface 72 of the tray 70. The smoking material 100 is placed within the inner space 36 of the packing mold 30. Alternatively, the smoking material 100 may be placed on the surface 72 of the tray 70, followed by the packing mold 30 being placed around the smoking material 100, which is already resting on the surface 72 of the tray 70. The packing mold 30 may be substantially shaped as a square or rectangle. Additionally, the packing mold 30 may have alternative shapes for marketing purposes or other functional purposes.

The packing stamp 50 is designed with an outside 56 to be substantially shaped to that of the inner edge 32 of the packing mold 30, such that the packing stamp 50 may be inserted into the inner space 36 of the packing mold 30 with the outside 56 of the packing stamp 50 fitting within the inner edge 32 of the packing mold 30 and minimal spacing between the outside 56 of the packing stamp 50 and the inner edge 32 of the packing mold 30. The packing edge 58 of the packing stamp 50 is designed to be placed upon the smoking material 100 within the inner space 36 of the packing mold 30. The handle 52 is grasped by the user to insert, remove, and control the movement of the packing stamp 50. The user may grasp the handle 52 of the packing stamp 50 and press down on top of the smoking material 100 within the inner space 36. The packing edge 58 is in contact with the smoking material 100 and compresses the smoking material 100 within the inner space 36, forming a brick of smoking material 100 with a desired density and shape. The user may select the amount of force to be applied to the smoking material 100 to create a smoking brick of more or less density.

As noted, the tray 70 includes the surface 72 on which the smoking material 100 may be placed. The surface 72 is substantially flat, and the packing mold 30 and smoking material 100 to be packed may be placed upon it. The bottom edge 38 of the packing mold 30 is substantially flat such that it may rest on the surface 72 of the tray 70 with little to no spacing therebetween.

When in use, the device 10 is used to form and pack the smoking material 100 into a brick of selected shape and density. The brick is formed by compressing the smoking material 100 between the surface 72 of the tray 70 and the packing edge 58 of the packing stamp 50. The packing mold 30 serves to provide the structure, determining the shape of the brick of smoking material. The user may compress the smoking material 100 to a desired density by grasping the handle 52 of the packing stamp 50 and applying downward pressure on the packing stamp 50 to compress the smoking material 100 within the inner space 36 of the packing mold 30. The smoking material 100 is compressed between the surface 72 and the packing edge 58.

The packing mold 30, packing stamp 50, and tray 70 of the present device may be made of a material of suitable density, configuration, and structural integrity to provide rigid structure while under pressure so that little deformation of those components occurs, resulting in the brick having substantially consistent dimensions. These components may be made of metallic or nonmetallic material, such as a polymeric or ceramic material but not limited thereto. The outer surfaces of the tray packing mold 30, the packing stamp 50, and the tray 70 may have a nonstick coating such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or other form of nonstick coating. The inner edge 32, the packing edge 58, and the surface 72 are designed to contact the smoking material 100 when the device 10 is in use. The optional nonstick coating is designed to allow the device 10 to be used while limiting sticking of the smoking material 100 to one or more surfaces of the device 10.

The invention also includes a method for shaping smoking material. Primary steps of the method are shown in FIG. 5. The method includes: a first step 200 of placing the packing mold 30 on the tray 70; a second step 210 of placing a desired amount of loose or at least loosely packed smoking material 100 onto the tray 70 inside the packing mold 30; a third step 220 of placing the packing stamp 50 inside the packing mold 30 on top of the smoking material 100;

and a fourth step 230 of compressing the smoking material 100 between the tray 70 and the packing stamp 50 inside the packing mold 30 under selectable pressure. In an alternative embodiment, the smoking material 100 may first be placed on the tray 70 and then the packing mold 30 placed on the tray 70 around the smoking material 100 before applying the packing stamp 50.

A product of the present invention that is the packed smoking material 100 is depicted in FIGS. 6-8. The product is a smoking material brick formed by the process of placing the packing mold 30 on the tray 70; placing the desired amount of smoking material 100 onto the tray 70 inside the packing mold 30; placing the packing stamp 50 inside the packing mold 30 on top of the smoking material 100; and compressing the smoking material 100 between the tray 70 and the packing stamp 50 inside the packing mold 30. The resultant brick of smoking material 100 is formed to the desired shape, density, and thickness. In the current embodiment, the brick 100 is substantially shaped in the form of the packing mold 30, having a bottom surface 102 and a top surface 104. The user may selectably control the density and thickness by the amount of pressure applied from the packing stamp 50 to the smoking material 100.

The bottom surface 102 of the brick 100 may be placed on a rolling material 120. The brick 100 may also include an optional smoking material 110 as depicted in FIG. 8. The optional smoking material 110 may be a cannabis concentrate or other added smoking material. The optional smoking material 110 may be placed on the top surface 104 of the brick 100. The rolling material 120 may be used to contain the brick 100 and optional smoking material 110.
