Claims
- 1. A method of changing press shutheight on a press, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing a drive piston connected to a tie rod;
- providing a sleeve adjacent said tie rod, said sleeve in contact with said drive piston and said tie rod, said sleeve and said drive piston forming a chamber therebetween; and
- pressurizing said chamber to selectively induce one of elongation and contraction of said tie rod to thereby change press shutheight.
- 2. The method of claim 1 in which said pressurizing step includes varying the pressure in said chamber to control press shutheight.
- 3. The method of claim 2 further including the step of operating said press then varying the pressure in said chamber during press operation to control press shutheight.
- 4. The method of claim 1 in which said pressurizing step pressurizes said chamber to between 2000 to 5000 pounds per square inch.
