Claims
- 1. A portable pressure control valve for use in conjunction with a stationary hydrant having no pressure control means therein and located below ground surface, said control valve being readily transportable on said surface and being capable of automatically precisely regulating the downstream pressure of a fluid flowing from said hydrant at a predetermined pressure level, comprising:
- a main valve housing, including an inlet, an outlet, and a main flow passage between said inlet and said outlet;
- a main piston, adjustably positioned within said main flow passage to precisely regulate the flow of fluid therethrough;
- a control passage for maintaining fluid under pressure for adjusting the position of said main piston;
- a pilot valve, responsive to said downstream pressure of said fluid for automatically regulating the pressure of the fluid in said control passage to precisely regulate said downstream pressure at said pre-determined pressure level; and
- rapidly operable coupling means attached to said inlet of said main valve housing adapted to removably connect said main valve housing to a hydrant.
- 2. A pressure control valve as defined in claim 1 wherein:
- said pilot valve is located within said main valve housing to protect said pilot valve from damage.
- 3. A pressure control valve for use in conjunction with a hydrant for controlling the delivery pressure of a fluid flowing from said hydrant comprising:
- a main valve housing including a main flow passage having an inlet;
- a coupler adapted to connect said inlet to a hydrant;
- means for monitoring the rate of fluid flow through said main flow passage;
- a main valve located within said main valve housing for closing said main flow passage;
- means responsive to said monitoring means for automatically closing said main valve, said means automatically closing said main valve in response to a first or second rate of flow of fluid through said main flow passage; and
- means for automatically resetting said means for automatically closing to be responsive to said flow rate in response to actuation of said coupler.
