Claims
- 1. A pressurizable vessel for a nuclear reactor, comprising a cylindrical shell and a cover mounted on said shell, said cover comprising a multiplicity of sections forming a generally flat disk and formed, at an upper side thereof, with at least one annular abutment and an annular prestressing arrangement with respective prestressing cables bearing upon said abutment, said disk being generally circular and planar and having a central array of bodies, a transition array of bodies surrounding said central array, a further array of bodies surrounding said transition array and an outer array of bodies surrounding said further array, at least one of said arrays of bodies being urged inwardly against a more inwardly array by said prestressing arrangement, adjacent ones of said bodies being formed with mutually interfitting means parallel to the plane of said disk for taking up forces transverse to the plane of the disk.
- 2. The vessel defined in claim 1, further comprising at least one additional prestressing cable engaging the outer periphery of said cover and bearing inwardly thereon.
- 3. The vessel defined in claim 1 wherein each of said arrangements comprises a U-section support element open toward the outer periphery of said cover and being received in the respective groove, said element of each arrangement receiving the prestressing cables thereof.
- 4. The vessel defined in claim 3, further comprising wedges received between each element and a wall of the respective groove for maintaining the cables of the respective arrangement under a predetermined stress.
- 5. The vessel defined in claim 1, further comprising keying means for preventing relative displacement of said sections in a direction transverse to the cover.
- 6. The vessel defined in claim 1 wherein said central array consists of bodies of isosceles polygonal plan configuration, said bodies of said transition array have surfaces conforming to those of the bodies of said central array and further surfaces lying along chords of a circle centered on said cover, and said bodies of said outer array are circular arcuate segments.
- 7. The vessel defined in claim 6 wherein said bodies of said central array are of hexagonal configuration, and said bodies of said further array are of quadrilateral configuration.
