Claims
- 1. A hydrolyzed ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer having a residual vinyl acetate content of 0.1 to 15 weight percent, said hydrolyzed ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer having a yellowness index (ASTM D-1925-63T) of a specimen thickness of 0.25 inch and having been prepared by
- alcoholyzing an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer containing 8-40 weight percent vinyl acetate and having a melt index in the range of from 1 to 25 in suspension in a substantially anhydrous alcoholyzing medium containing a lower alkanol having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms and an alkali metal alkoxide or hydroxide catalyst, and
- subjecting the alcoholyzing reaction medium containing the copolymer to electromagnetic radiation of wave lengths in the range of about 3,000 to 8,000 Angstrom units during at least a portion of the alcoholysis reaction.
