Claims
- 1. A print head comprising:a print element substrate having a substrate on which an ejection energy generating element for generating thermal energy that is used for ejecting ink is provided, and an ejection opening plate which is provided on said substrate and in which an ejection opening is provided so that said ejection opening faces said ejection energy generating element; a support member in contact with said substrate to support said print element substrate; an ink supply path for supplying the ink to said ejection opening on said print element substrate; and an air chamber communicating with said ink supply path and containing air, wherein at least a part of an inner wall of said air chamber is formed with said support member, and said air chamber and said ejection energy generating element are positioned on opposite sides of said substrate.
- 2. A print head as claimed in claim 1, wherein a recess is formed in said support member, and said support member and said print element substrate are connected to each other so that the recess forms a space corresponding to said air chamber.
- 3. A print head as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a second supporting member supporting said support member as a first supporting member, and wherein a recess or a through hole is fanned in either or both of said first supporting member and said second supporting member, and said print element substrate, said first supporting member and said second supporting member are connected so that the recess or the through hole form a space corresponding to said air chamber.
- 4. A print head as claimed in claim 1, wherein a through hole forming a portion of said ink supply path is provided in said support member, and an inner wall of said through hole has an inclined surface so that said through hole becomes gradually narrower in a direction from upstream to downstream.
- 5. A print head as claimed in claim 4, wherein said air chamber communicates with said ink supply path at an end area of said inclined surface.
- 6. A print head as claimed in claim 1, wherein said ink supply path has a bend portion at an upstream side of said ink supply path.
- 7. A print head as claimed in claim 1, wherein thermal energy generated by said energy generating element is used to generate a bubble in the ink so that pressure of the bubble causes the ink to be ejected from said ejection opening.
- 8. A print head as claimed in claim 7, wherein the bubble communicates with atmospheric air and then the ink is ejected from said ejection opening.
- 9. An ink jet printing apparatus comprising:a print head comprising: a print element substrate having a substrate on which an ejection energy generating element for generating thermal energy that is used for ejecting ink is provided, and an ejection opening plate which is provided on said substrate and in which an ejection opening is provided so that said ejection opening faces said ejection energy generating element; a support member in contact with said substrate to support said print element substrate; an ink supply path for supplying the ink to said ejection opening on said print element substrate; an air chamber communicating with said ink supply path and containing air, at least a part of an inner wall of said air chamber being formed with said support member, and said air chamber and said ejection energy generating element being positioned on opposite sides of said substrate; and a member for mounting said print head.
- 10. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space for receiving a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path for supplying the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip, wherein said plurality of liquid flow paths are arranged as a group in said head chip, a communication portion communicating with said liquid supply path and forming an interface between a gas and a liquid and a gas retaining chamber which has a larger volume than that of said communication portion and retains a gas, are provided at one end and at another end of said group, and said gas retaining chamber and said liquid ejection elements are positioned on opposite sides of said plate.
- 11. An ink jet head as claimed in claim 10, wherein said gas retaining chamber is formed at an area at which said head chip and said liquid supply unit are in contact with each other.
- 12. An ink jet head as claimed in claim 10, wherein said gas retaining chamber communicates with said liquid supply path through said communication portion having a cross-sectional area which enables a meniscus for the liquid to be formed.
- 13. An ink jet head as claimed in claim 10, wherein said liquid supply path has an inclined portion, and said gas retaining chamber is disposed at a position capable of receiving a component of liquid movement of a different direction, which is caused by said inclined portion of said liquid supply path, from a direction of liquid supply.
- 14. An ink jet head as claimed in claim 10, wherein a cross-sectional area of said communication portion is greater than that of each of said plurality of liquid flow paths.
- 15. An ink jet head as claimed in claim 10, wherein each of said liquid ejection elements generates a bubble for ejecting the liquid and the liquid is ejected after the bubble communicates with atmospheric air.
- 16. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space for receiving a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path which supplies the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip and has an inclined portion, wherein a gas retaining chamber retaining a gas is disposed at a position capable of receiving a component of liquid movement of a different direction, which is caused by said inclined portion of said liquid supply path, from a direction of liquid supply, and said gas retaining chamber and said liquid ejection elements are positioned on opposite sides of said plate.
- 17. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space which has an inclined portion and receives a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path which supplies the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip and has an inclined portion, wherein a gas retaining chamber retaining a gas is disposed near a position where an extended line of said inclined portion of said through hole space crosses an extended line of said inclined portion of said liquid supply path, and said gas retaining chamber and said liquid ejection elements are positioned on opposite sides of said plate.
- 18. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space which has an inclined portion and receives a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path which supplies the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip and has an inclined portion, wherein a gas retaining chamber retaining a gas is disposed at a position which an end of a surface of said inclined portion of said through hole space and an end of a surface of said inclined portion of said liquid supply path face, and said gas retaining chamber and said liquid ejection elements are positioned on opposite sides of said plate.
- 19. A print head comprising:a print element substrate having a substrate on which an ejection energy generating element for generating thermal energy that is used for ejecting ink is provided, and an ejection opening plate which is provided on said substrate and in which an ejection opening is provided so that said ejection opening faces said ejection energy generating element; a support member in contact with said substrate to support said print element substrate; an ink supply path for supplying the ink to said ejection opening on said print element substrate; and an air chamber communicating only with said ink supply path and containing air, wherein at least a part of an inner wall of said air chamber is formed with said support member, and said air chamber is prevented from being exposed to outside air when said print head is used for printing.
- 20. An ink jet printing apparatus comprising:a print head comprising: a print element substrate having a substrate on which an ejection energy generating element for generating thermal energy that is used for ejecting ink is provided, and an ejection opening plate which is provided on said substrate and in which an ejection opening is provided so that said ejection opening faces said ejection energy generating element; a support member in contact with said substrate to support said print element substrate; an ink supply path for supplying the ink to said ejection opening on said print element substrate; an air chamber communicating only with said ink supply path and containing air, at least a part of an inner wall of said air chamber being formed with said support member, and said air chamber being prevented from being exposed to outside air when said print head is used for printing; and a member for mounting said print head.
- 21. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space for receiving a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path for supplying the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip, wherein said plurality of liquid flow paths are arranged as a group in said head chip, a communication portion communicating with said liquid supply path and forming an interface between a gas and a liquid and a gas retaining chamber which has a larger volume than that of said communication portion and retains a gas, are provided at one end and at another end of said group, and said gas retaining chamber is prevented from being exposed to outside air when said ink jet head is used for printing.
- 22. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space for receiving a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path which supplies the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip and has an inclined portion, wherein a gas retaining chamber retaining a gas is disposed at a position capable of receiving a component of liquid movement of a different direction, which is caused by said inclined portion of said liquid supply path, from a direction of liquid supply, and said gas retaining chamber is prevented from being exposed to outside air when said ink jet head is used for printing.
- 23. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space which has an inclined portion and receives a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path which supplies the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip and has an inclined portion, wherein a gas retaining chamber retaining a gas is disposed near a position where an extended line of said inclined portion of said through hole space crosses an extended line of said inclined portion of said liquid supply path, and said gas retaining chamber is prevented from being exposed to outside air when said ink jet head is used for printing.
- 24. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space which has an inclined portion and receives a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path which supplies the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip and has an inclined portion, wherein a gas retaining chamber retaining a gas is disposed at a position which an end of a surface of said inclined portion of said through hole space and an end of a surface of said inclined portion of said liquid supply path face, and said gas retaining chamber is prevented from being exposed to outside air when said ink jet head is used for printing.
- 25. A print head comprising:print element substrate having a substrate on which an ejection energy generating element for generating thermal energy that is used for ejecting ink is provided, and an ejection opening plate which is provided on said substrate and in which an ejection opening is provided so that said ejection opening faces said ejection energy generating element; a support member in contact with said substrate to support said print element substrate; an ink supply path for supplying the ink to said ejection opening on said print element substrate; and an air chamber communicating with said ink supply path and containing air, wherein said air chamber is formed by joining said substrate and said support member so as not to be exposed to outside air.
- 26. An ink jet printing apparatus comprising:a print head comprising: a print element substrate having a substrate on which an ejection energy generating element for generating thermal energy that is used for ejecting ink is provided, and an ejection opening plate which is provided on said substrate and in which an ejection opening is provided so that said ejection opening faces said ejection energy generating element; a support member in contact with said substrate to support said print element substrate; an ink supply path for supplying the ink to said ejection opening on said print element substrate; an air chamber communicating with said ink supply path and containing air, and being formed by joining said substrate and said support member so as not to be exposed to outside air; and a member for mounting said print head.
- 27. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space for receiving a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path for supplying the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip, wherein said plurality of liquid flow paths are arranged as a group in said head chip, a communication portion communicating with said liquid supply path and forming an interface between a gas and a liquid and a gas retaining chamber which has a larger volume than that of said communication portion and retains a gas, are provided at one end and at another end of said group, and said gas retaining chamber is formed by joining said plate and said liquid supply unit so as not to be exposed to outside air.
- 28. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space for receiving a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path which supplies the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip and has an inclined portion, wherein a gas retaining chamber retaining a gas is disposed a position capable of receiving a component of liquid movement of a different direction, which is caused by said inclined portion of said liquid supply path, from a direction of liquid supply, and said gas retaining chamber is formed by joining said plate and said liquid supply unit so as not to be exposed to outside air.
- 29. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space which has an inclined portion and receives a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path which supplies the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip and has an inclined portion, wherein a gas retaining chamber retaining a gas is disposed near a position where an extended line of said inclined portion of said through hole space crosses an extended line of said inclined portion of said liquid supply path, and said gas retaining chamber is formed by joining said plate and said liquid supply unit so as not to be exposed to outside air.
- 30. An ink jet head comprising:a head chip including a plate which is provided with a plurality of liquid flow paths, liquid ejection elements corresponding to said plurality of liquid flow paths, respectively, and liquid ejection openings corresponding to said liquid ejection elements, respectively, and in which a through hole space which has an inclined portion and receives a liquid is formed; and a liquid supply unit having a liquid supply path which supplies the liquid from a liquid supply source to said head chip and has an inclined portion, wherein a gas retaining chamber retaining a gas is disposed at a position which an end of a surface of said inclined portion of said through hole space and an end of a surface of said inclined portion of said liquid supply path face, and said gas retaining portion is formed by joining said plate and said liquid supply unit so as not to be exposed to outside air.
