Claims
- 1. A circuit pack comprising:
- a PC board defining a first set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor, and a second set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor; and
- a ferrite EMI filter having a body mounted on the PC board, defining a first set of a Plurality of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively disconnected from the other "U"-shaped conductors and conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the first set and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body, and defining a second set of a plurality of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively disconnected from the other "U"-shaped conductors and conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the second set and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and oriented with respect to the first set of "U"-shaped conductors such that planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the first set of conductors are substantially perpendicular to planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the second set of conductors.
- 2. The circuit pack of claim 1 wherein:
- the body comprises at least two body portions abutting each other, and
- each "U"-shaped conductor comprises a pair of conductors defined by a first one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape, and a conductor defined by either one of the two body portions at the abutment of the body portions that conductively bridges the pair of conductors defined by the first one of the body portions.
- 3. The circuit pack of claim 1 wherein:
- the PC board is a single-layer board and both said sets of PC conductors are defined by the single layer of the board.
- 4. The circuit pack of claim 1 wherein:
- the body comprises at least two body portions abutting each other, and
- each "U"-shaped conductor comprises a pair of conductive vias s defined by a first one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape, and a conductor defined by either one of the two body portions at the abutment of the body portions that conductively bridges the pair of conductive vias.
- 5. The circuit pack of claim 1 wherein:
- the PC board is a multi-layer board, the first set of PC conductors is defined by one layer of the board, and the second set of PC conductors is defined by another layer of the board.
- 6. The circuit pack of claim 1 wherein:
- the PC board is a multi-layer board, a first layer of the board defines the first set and the second set of PC conductors, and a second layer of the board defines a third set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor and a fourth set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor, and
- the body further defines a third set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the third set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the third set of conductors are nested within the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the first set of conductors, and a fourth set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the fourth set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and oriented with respect to the third set of conductors such that planes in which lie the conductors of the third set of conductors are substantially perpendicular to planes in which lie the conductors of the fourth set of conductors and the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the fourth set of conductors are nested within the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the second set of conductors.
- 7. The circuit pack of claim 6 wherein:
- the body comprises five body portions abutting each other in series,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of each set of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a first one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but a first one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a second one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but the first one and a second one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a third one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but the first one, the second one, and a third one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a fourth one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said first one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the first and the second body portions and connectively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said second one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions and connectively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the first and the second body portions,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said third one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions and conductively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions, and
- each "U"-shaped conductor of a fourth one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the fourth and the fifth body portions and conductively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the fourth and the fifth body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions.
- 8. The circuit pack of claim 1 wherein:
- the body comprises one of (a) a nickel-zinc material and (b) a manganese-zinc material.
- 9. An EMI filter for PC conductors of a PC board defining a first set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor and a second set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor, the EMI filter comprising:
- a ferrite body adapted for mounting to the PC board, defining a first set of a plurality of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively disconnected from the other "U"-shaped conductors and conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the first set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body, and defining a second set of a plurality of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively disconnected from the other "U"-shaped conductors and conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the second set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and oriented with respect to the first set of "U"-shaped conductors such that planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the first set of conductors are substantially orthogonal to planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the second set of conductors.
- 10. The EMI filter of claim 9 wherein:
- the body comprises at least two body portions abutting each other, and
- each "U"-shaped conductor comprises a pair of conductors defined by a first one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape, and a conductor defined by either one of the two body portions at the abutment of the body portions that conductively bridges the pair of conductors defined by the first one of the body portions.
- 11. The EMI filter of claim 9 wherein:
- the body comprises at least two body portions abutting each other, and
- each "U"-shaped conductor comprises a pair of conductive vias defined by a first one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape, and a conductor defined by either one of the two body portions at the abutment of the body portions that conductively bridges the pair of conductive vias.
- 12. The EMI filter of claim 9 for a multi-layer PC board wherein the first set of PC conductors is defined by one layer of the board and the second set of PC conductors is defined by another layer of the board.
- 13. The EMI filter of claim 9 for a multi-layer PC board wherein a first layer of the board defines the first set and the second set of PC conductors, and a second layer of the board defines a third set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor and a fourth set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor, wherein:
- the ferrite body further defines a third set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the third set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the third set of conductors are nested within the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the first set of conductors, and a fourth set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the fourth set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and oriented with respect to the third set of conductors such that planes in which lie the conductors of the third set of conductors are substantially perpendicular to planes in which lie the conductors of the fourth set of conductors and the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the fourth set of conductors are nested within the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the second set of conductors.
- 14. The EMI filter of claim 13 wherein:
- the body comprises five body portions abutting each other in series,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of each set of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a first one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but a first one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a second one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but the first one and a second one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a third one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but the first one, the second one, and a third one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a fourth one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said first one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the first and the second body portions and connectively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said second one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions and connectively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the first and the second body portions,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said third one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions and conductively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions, and
- each "U"-shaped conductor of a fourth one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the fourth and the fifth body portions and conductively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the fourth and the fifth body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions.
- 15. The EMI filter of claim 9 wherein:
- the body comprises one of (a) a nickel-zinc material and (b) a manganese-zinc material.
- 16. A circuit pack comprising:
- a PC board defining a first set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor, and a second set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor; and
- a ferrite EMI filter having a body mounted on the PC board and comprising at least two body portions abutting each other, defining a first set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the first set and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body, and defining a second set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the second set and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and oriented with respect to the first set of "U"-shaped conductors such that planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the first set of conductors are substantially perpendicular to planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the second set of conductors; and
- each "U"-shaped conductor comprising a pair of conductors defined by a first one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape, and a conductor defined by either one of the two body portions at the abutment of the body portions that conductively bridges the pair of conductors defined by the first one of the body portions.
- 17. The circuit pack of claim 16 wherein:
- the PC board is a single-layer board and both said sets of PC conductors are defined by the single layer of the board.
- 18. The circuit pack of claim 16 wherein:
- the pair of conductors forming the legs of each "U"-shaped conductor comprises a pair of conductive vias defined by a first one of the body portions.
- 19. The circuit pack of claim 16 wherein:
- the PC board is a multi-layer board, the first set of PC conductors is defined by one layer of the board, and the second set of PC conductors is defined by another layer of the board.
- 20. A circuit pack comprising:
- a multi-layer PC board, a first layer of the PC board defining a first set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor and a second set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor, and a second layer of the board defining a third set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor and a fourth set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor; and
- a ferrite EMI filter having a body mounted on the PC board, defining a first set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the first set and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body, and defining a second set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the second set and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and oriented with respect to the first set of "U"-shaped conductors such that planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the first set of conductors are substantially perpendicular to planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the second set of conductors; and
- the body further defining a third set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the third set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the third set of conductors are nested within the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the first set of conductors, and a fourth set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the fourth set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and oriented with respect to the third set of conductors such that planes in which lie the conductors of the third set of conductors are substantially perpendicular to planes in which lie the conductors of the fourth set of conductors and the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the fourth set of conductors are nested within the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the second set of conductors.
- 21. The circuit pack of claim 20 wherein:
- the body comprises five body portions abutting each other in series,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of each set of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a first one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but a first one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a second one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but the first one and a second one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a third one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but the first one, the second one, and a third one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a fourth one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said first one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the first and the second body portions and connectively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said second one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions and connectively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the first and the second body portions,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said third one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions and conductively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions, and
- each "U"-shaped conductor of a fourth one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the fourth and the fifth body portions and conductively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the fourth and the fifth body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions.
- 22. An EMI filter for PC conductors of a PC board defining a first set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor and a second set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor, the EMI filter comprising:
- a ferrite body adapted for mounting to the PC board and comprising at least two body portions abutting each other, defining a first set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the first set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body, and defining a second set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the second set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and oriented with respect to the first set of "U"-shaped conductors such that planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the first set of conductors are substantially orthogonal to planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the second set of conductors; and
- each "U"-shaped conductor comprising a pair of conductors defined by a first one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape, and a conductor defined by either one of the two body portions at the abutment of the body portions that conductively bridges the pair of conductors defined by the first one of the body portions.
- 23. The EMI filter of claim 22 wherein:
- the pair of conductors forming legs of each "U"-shaped conductor comprises a pair of conductive vias defined by a first one of the body portions.
- 24. The EMI filter of claim 22 for a multi-layer PC board wherein the first set of PC conductors is defined by one layer of the board and the second set of PC conductors is defined by another layer of the board.
- 25. An EMI filter for PC conductors of a multi-layer PC board, a first layer of the PC board defining a first set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor and a second set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor, and a second layer of the board defining a third set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor and a fourth set of PC conductors comprising at least one PC conductor, the EMI filter comprising:
- a ferrite body adapted for mounting to the PC board, defining a first set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the first set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body, and defining a second set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the second set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and oriented with respect to the first set of "U"-shaped conductors such that planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the first set of conductors are substantially orthogonal to planes in which lie the "U"-shaped conductors of the second set of conductors; and
- the ferrite body further defining a third set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the third set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the third set of conductors are nested within the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the first set of conductors, and a fourth set of substantially "U"-shaped conductors each conductively connected in series with a different one of the PC conductors of the fourth set of PC conductors and extending substantially in parallel with each other through the body and oriented with respect to the third set of conductors such that planes in which lie the conductors of the third set of conductors are substantially perpendicular to planes in which lie the conductors of the fourth set of conductors and the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the fourth set of conductors are nested within the "U" shapes formed by the conductors of the second set of conductors.
- 26. The EMI filter of claim 25 wherein:
- the body comprises five body portions abutting each other in series,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of each set of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a first one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but a first one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a second one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but the first one and a second one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a third one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of all but the first one, the second one, and a third one of the sets of conductors includes a pair of conductors defined by a fourth one of the body portions to form legs of the "U" shape,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said first one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the first and the second body portions and connectively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said second one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions and connectively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the first and the second body portions,
- each "U"-shaped conductor of said third one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions and conductively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the second and the third body portions, and
- each "U"-shaped conductor of a fourth one of the sets of conductors further includes a conductor defined at the abutment of the fourth and the fifth body portions and conductively bridging the legs of the "U"-shaped conductor, the conductors defined at the abutment of the fourth and the fifth body portions being orthogonal to the conductors defined at the abutment of the third and the fourth body portions.
