- 2. The ink jet printer as claimed in claim 1, further including at least one paper guide for introducing a leading end of the paper to said transport roller.
- 3. The ink jet printer of claim 2, wherein said at least one paper guide prevents said paper from contacting said ink shielding portion as said paper is fed through said print area.
- 4. The ink jet printer of claim 2, wherein said at least one paper guide is integrally formed with said ink shielding portion and is disposed downstream of a portion of said ink shielding portion opposing said print area.
- 5. The ink jet printer of claim 2, wherein at least one of said at least one paper discharge roller and said at least one feed roller has a diameter which causes said at least one paper discharge roller to rotate at a faster speed than that of said at least one paper feed roller.
- 6. The ink jet printer of claim 2, further including:
- a frame;
- at least one feed roller shaft rotatably supported by said frame, said at least one feed roller being mounted on said feed roller shaft to rotate therewith;
- at least one transmission shaft rotatably supported by said frame;
- at least one roller portion and said at least one gear being mounted on said at least one transmission shaft;
- at least one paper discharge shaft rotatably supported by said frame, said at least one paper discharge roller being mounted on said paper discharge shaft to rotate therewith;
- a second gear mounted on said at least one paper discharge shaft;
- said at least one gear being of such diameter that when said at least one feed roller is rotated in the paper-feeding direction, said at least one gear engages said second gear, said at least one gear causing said at least one paper discharge roller to rotate in the paper-feeding direction at a faster speed than that of said at least one feed roller.
- 7. The ink jet printer of claim 6, wherein said said at least one gear has a number of teeth which causes at least one of said at least one paper discharge roller to rotate at a faster speed than that of said at least one paper feed roller.
- 8. The ink jet printer of claim 6, wherein said said at least one gear disengages from said second gear when said at least one feed roller is rotated to feed paper in a direction opposite to said paper feeding direction.
- 9. The ink jet printer of claim 6, further including a pressing member for pressing the paper over essentially an entire widthwise length of said paper, a pressing portion of said pressing member being disposed at a position between said at least one feed roller and said at least one paper discharge roller and where said pressing portion does not contact said at least one feed roller or said at least one paper discharge.
- 10. An ink jet printer comprising:
- an ink jet head for effecting printing at a print area;
- at least one feed roller for feeding paper to said print area where printing is effected;
- at least one paper discharge roller disposed downstream of said feed roller relative to the print area;
- at least one gear operatively coupled to said at least one feed roller and said at least one paper discharge roller, at least one of said at least one feed roller and at least one paper discharge roller being dimensioned so that said at least one paper discharge roller rotates at a faster speed than that of said at least one feed roller thereby transporting said paper in such a manner as to stretch said paper between said at least one paper discharge roller and said at least one feed roller;
- a guide member; and
- a pressing member spaced apart from and disposed above said guide member for pressing the paper over essentially an entire widthwise length of said paper, a pressing portion of said pressing member being disposed at a position between said at least one feed roller and said at least one paper discharge roller and where said pressing portion does not contact said at least one feed roller or said at least one paper discharge roller or said guide member.
- 11. The ink jet printer of claim 10, further including:
- an ink shielding portion disposed so as to form a passage for said paper between said ink shielding portion and said ink jet head over the entire print area.
- 12. An ink jet printer comprising:
- a frame;
- a printing area disposed within said frame for printing on a sheet;
- at least one paper discharge roller rotatable mounted within said frame;
- a support member connected to said frame having at least two supporting portions, each supporting portion having a slot therein;
- a shaft having two ends, each end being slideably supported within said slot of one of said at least two supporting portions;
- a pair of star wheels rotatably mounted at opposite ends of said shaft; said star wheels rotating to nip the sheet between said pair of star wheels and said at least one paper discharge roller when the sheet is conveyed in a sheet feed direction from said printing area to said star wheels; said shaft being slideable within said supporting portions in a direction substantially perpendicular to said sheet feed direction; and
- an urging member connected to said frame constructed to urge a central portion of said shaft toward said at least one paper discharge roller.
- 13. The ink jet printer as claimed in claim 12, comprising:
- at least one feed roller for feeding paper to said print area,
- a pressing member for pressing the paper over essentially an entire widthwise dimension of said paper, a pressing portion of said pressing member being disposed at a position between said at least one feed roller and said at least one paper discharge roller and where said pressing portion does not contact said at least one feed roller or said at least one paper discharge.
- 14. The ink jet printer of claim 12, comprising:
- an ink jet head for effecting printing at said print area;
- at least one feed roller for feeding paper to said print area where printing is effected;
- at least one gear operatively coupled to said at least one feed roller and said at least one paper discharge roller, at least one of said at least one feed roller and at least one paper discharge roller being dimensioned so that said at least one paper discharge roller rotates at a faster speed than that of said at least one feed roller thereby transporting said paper in such a manner as to stretch said paper between said at least one paper discharge roller and said at least one feed roller by rotating said transport roller at a peripheral speed faster than that of said feed roller; and
- a pressing member for pressing the paper over essentially an entire widthwise length of said paper, a pressing portion of said pressing member being disposed at a position between said at least one feed roller and said at least one paper discharge roller and where said pressing portion does not contact said at least one feed roller or said at least one paper discharge roller.
- 15. The ink jet printer of claim 12, comprising at least a second shaft and at least a second urging member disposed spaced from a first shaft and a first urging member in the paper-width direction.
