Claims
- 1. A process for depositing a protective coating on the surface of an article having a zinc surface, comprising contacting with said surface an aqueous solution containing, per liter of solution, metasilicate equivalent to 1 to 40 grams of sodium metasilicate, phosphate equivalent to 14 to 40 milliliters of phosphoric acid having a density of 1.71 g/ml, nitrate equivalent to 1 to 40 grams of sodium nitrate, and zinc equivalent to 10 to 50 grams of anhydrous zinc chloride, said solution having a pH between 2.3 and 3.8, and a temperature between 15.degree. and 75.degree. C., for between 20 and 72 hours at the aforesaid temperature, and rinsing said surface with water.
- 2. A process according to claim 1, in which said solution contains also hexametaphosphate equivalent to up to 70 grams of sodium hexametaphosphate per liter of solution.
- 3. A process according to claim 2, in which said solution contains also nickel equivalent to 0.5 to 20 grams per liter of nickel chloride.
- 4. A process according to claim 1, in which said solution contains also nickel equivalent to 0.5 to 20 grams per liter of nickel chloride.
- 5. An article having a zinc surface which has been treated in accordance with the process of claim 1.
- 6. An article having a zinc surface which has been treated in accordance with the process of claim 2.
- 7. An article having a zinc surface which has been treated in accordance with the process of claim 3.
- 8. An article having a zinc surface which has been treated in accordance with the process of claim 4.
- 9. A process for depositing a protective coating on zinc-coated ferrous metal parts, comprising contacting said parts for between 20 and 72 hours with an aqueous solution which contains, per liter of final solution, from 1 to 40 grams of sodium metasilicate, from 14 to 40 milliliters of phosphoric acid having a density of 1.71 g/ml, from 1 to 40 grams of sodium nitrate, and from 10 to 50 grams of anhydrous zinc chloride, the pH of said solution being adjusted to a value between 2.3 and 3.8, said solution having a temperature of 15.degree. to 75.degree. C., and then rinsing said parts with water.
- 10. A process according to claim 9 in which said solution contains up to 70 grams of sodium hexametaphosphate per liter of final solution.
- 11. A process according to claim 10 in which said solution contains from 0.5 to 20 grams of nickel chloride per liter of final solution, said nickel chloride being added before adjustment of the pH of said solution.
- 12. A process according to claim 10 for depositing a protective coating on the inner surface of zinc-coated steel piping, including circulating said solution through said piping, and filtering said circulating solution.
- 13. A process according to claim 12 in which said circulating of said solution is intermittent.
- 14. A process according to claim 10 comprising contacting said parts in a vessel containing said solution, while filtering and recycling said solution.
- 15. A process according to claim 9 in which said solution contains from 0.5 to 20 grams of nickel chloride per liter of final solution, said nickel chloride being added before adjustment of the pH value of said solution.
- 16. A process according to claim 9 for depositing a protective coating on the inner surface of zinc-coated steel piping, including circulating said solution through said piping, and filtering said circulating solution.
- 17. A process according to claim 16 in which said circulating of said solution is intermittent.
- 18. A process according to claim 9 comprising contacting said parts in a vessel containing said solution, while filtering and recycling said solution.
- 19. Galvanized parts on which a protective coating has been deposited by a process according to claim 9.
- 20. Galvanized parts on which a protective coating has been deposited by a process according to claim 10.
