Claims
- 1. A method for measuring sulfur in a sample, consisting essentially of:
- (a) a step including producing sulfur monoxide from the sample;
- (b) a step including reacting the sulfur monoxide with ozone to produce a chemiluminescent sulfur compound; and
- (c) a step including detecting the chemiluminescence of the chemiluminescent sulfur compound to measure the sulfur in the compound.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the producing step includes passing the sample through a chromatographic column.
- 3. A detector for measuring sulfur in a sample, consisting essentially of: means for producing sulfur monoxide from non-sulfur-containing compounds in the sample; an ozone source; a reaction chamber in communication with the producing means and ozone source for reacting ozone with the sulfur monoxide to produce a chemiluminescent sulfur compound; and a chemiluminescence detector in communication with the reaction chamber for detecting chemiluminescent light to measure the amount of sulfur in the sample.
- 4. The detector of claim 3, wherein the producing means includes a chromatographic column.
- 5. The detector of claim 4, wherein said chemiluminescence detector includes a sulfur monoxide collector probe with an aluminum oxide collector mouth.
