Claims
- 1. A process for on-line manufacture of SC-A paper having a high smoothness, the process comprising introducing a paper web arriving from a paper machine on-line into a supercalender, conducting the paper in the supercalender through a plurality of nips for achieving desired smoothness properties, further comprising moistening the paper webs prior to a first of the nips of the supercalender with a spray mist applied to the paper web about 0.6 to 1.2 s for obtaining a paper web uniformly moistened in a Z-direction of the paper web before the paper web travels through the first nip.
- 2. The process according to claim 1, wherein the spray mist is applied onto the paper web 0.8 to 1 s before the paper web travels through the first nip.
- 3. The process according to claim 1, comprising applying the spray mist as a fine uniform mist having an average droplet size of <50 μm.
- 4. The process according to claim 3, wherein the droplet size is ≦20 μm.
- 5. The process according to claim 1, comprising increasing a moisture content of the paper web by applying the spray mist by about 5 to 7% by weight.
- 6. The process according to claim 1, wherein the paper web has a moisture content after the application of spray mist of about 7 to 11% by weight.
- 7. The process according to claim 1, comprising producing the spray mist with water and reducing a surface tension of the water.
- 8. The process according to claim 7, comprising producing the spray mist with warm water.
- 9. The process according to claim 7, comprising adding tensides to the spray mist water.
- 10. The process according to claim 1, comprising spraying the spray mist with air.
- 11. The process according to claim 1, comprising determining a moisture content of the paper web at least one of in front of and following the application of spray mist, and controlling the application of spray mist in dependence on the actually determined moisture values and predetermined nominal values.
- 12. The process according to claim 1, comprising determining any gloss or smoothness differences over the width of the paper web, and adjusting the application of spray mist in a transverse direction of the paper mist to the determined differences.
- 13. The process according to claim 1, comprising applying the spray mist to an upper side and a bottom side of the paper web.
- 14. The process according to claim 1, further comprising, after moistening with a spray mist, moistening the paper web immediately prior to the first nip of the supercalender with steam and guiding the paper web through the first nip before an increased moisture of the paper web surface resulting from the steam application has dropped below a predetermined value in the range of 12% to 25%.
