Claims
- 1. A process for producing a yarn end reserve on a cross wound yarn package carried on a package former which has end portions extending beyond the side of said cross wound yarn package comprising:
- unwinding said package to withdraw a length of yarn from said package;
- rotating said package in the normal winding direction;
- winding a portion of the length of said withdrawn yarn in a defined non-cross wound pattern on the surface of said package in a manner so that said non-cross wound windings are maintained in position on the circumference of said package upon subsequent tensioning of the remaining portion of said length of withdraw yarn, said non-cross wound winding comprising winding said yarn essentially parallel to the edge of said package former;
- deflecting said withdrawn yarn onto an end portion of said package former after said non-cross wound winding step as said package is rotated in the normal winding direction causing said yarn to wrap around said end portion;
- deflecting said withdrawn yarn end over the side of said package for laying said withdrawn yarn end on the surface of said package; and
- holding said withdrawn yarn under tension while said yarn is being deflected to be wrapped around said end portion of said package former and over the surface of said package, said non-cross wound winding allowing said withdrawn yarn to be held under tension.
- 2. The process as in claim 1, further comprising wrapping said yarn with more than one winding as said yarn is wrapped around said end portion of said package former.
- 3. The process as in claim 1, wherein said yarn is wrapped around said end portion substantially 180 degrees.
- 4. The process as in claim 1, further comprising pressing said yarn against said surface of said package as said yarn is being laid on said surface.
- 5. The process as in claim 1, wherein said deflecting of said yarn onto an end portion of said package former comprises deflecting said yarn into a groove defined in said end portion causing said yarn to wrap within said groove on said end portion.
- 6. A process for producing a yarn end reserve on a cross wound yarn package carried on a package former which has end portions extending beyond the side of said cross wound yarn package comprising:
- unwinding said package to withdraw a length of yarn from said package;
- rotating said package in the normal winding direction;
- winding a portion of the length of said withdrawn yarn in a defined non-cross wound pattern on the surface of said package in a manner so that said non-cross wound windings are maintained in position on the circumference of said package upon subsequent tensioning of the remaining portion of said length of withdraw yarn, said non-cross wound winding Comprising forming a plurality of essentially parallel windings on the surface of said package;
- deflecting said withdrawn yarn onto an end portion of said package former after said non-cross wound winding step as said package is rotated in the normal winding direction causing said yarn to wrap around said end portion;
- 7. The process as in claim 6, further comprising wrapping said yarn with more than one winding as said yarn is wrapped around said end portion of said package former.
- 8. The process as in claim 6, wherein said yarn is wrapped around said end portion substantially 180 degrees.
- 9. The process as in claim 6, further comprising pressing said yarn against said surface of said package as said yarn is being laid on said surface.
- 10. The process as in claim 6, wherein said deflecting of said yarn onto an end portion of said package former comprises deflecting said yarn into a groove defined in said end portion causing said yarn to wrap within said groove on said end portion.
