Claims
- 1. A method for designing a tooling assembly comprising the steps of:
a.) determining a set of tooling assembly requirements; b.) determining a desired part geometry; c.) automatically determining a configuration for tooling assembly components of the tooling assembly with respect to the tooling assembly requirements, and the desired part geometry; and d.) automatically verifying relationships between tooling assembly components comprising the tooling assembly.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein steps c.) and d.) are automatically performed by a computer.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein step d.) comprises automatically validating a spatial relationship between each component within the tooling assembly relative to every other component within the tooling assembly.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein step d.) comprises automatically validating a functional relationship between each component within the tooling assembly relative to every other component with the tooling assembly.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein step d.) comprises maintaining relationships between each of the components in view of the tooling assembly requirements.
- 6. The method of claim 1, comprising modifying a tooling component configuration automatically in view of a relationship between other tooling components such that the tooling assembly component does not conform to the tooling assembly requirements.
- 7. The method of claim 6, comprising automatically compiling a list of tooling components having non-conforming configurations.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein said tooling assembly requirements comprises application specific information.
- 9. The method of claim 1, comprising creating a set of tooling assembly standards and said step c.) comprises specifying the configuration of each tooling component in view of the tooling assembly standards.
- 10. The method of claim 1, comprising creating a Master Control File containing tooling component configuration information for a complete tooling assembly.
- 11. The method of claim 10, comprising modifying the Master Control File to alter the tooling assembly configuration.
- 12. The method of claim 10, comprising translating information contained within the Master Control File to produce a graphical output.
- 13. The method of claim 1, wherein said tooling assembly comprises a mold.
- 14. The method of claim 1, wherein said tooling assembly comprises a stamping die.
- 15. A computer readable storage medium containing a plurality of computer executable instructions for automatically designing a tooling assembly, comprising:
a first set of instructions directing the computer to determine a set of tooling assembly requirements; a second set of instructions directing the computer to access a desired part geometry; a third set of instructions directing the computer to specify a configuration for components of the tooling assembly with respect to the tooling assembly requirement and the desired part geometry; and a fourth set of instructions directing the computer to automatically verify relationships between tooling assembly components comprising the tooling assembly.
- 16. The storage medium of claim 15, wherein said fourth set of instructions comprises instructions directing the computer to validate spatial relationships between each component within the tooling assembly relative to every other component within the tooling assembly.
- 17. The storage medium of claim 15, wherein said fourth set of instructions comprises instructions directing the computer to validate functional relationships of each component within the tooling assembly to every other component with the tooling assembly.
- 18. The storage medium of claim 15, wherein said fourth set of instructions comprises instructions directing the computer to maintain relationships between each of the components in view of the tooling assembly requirements.
- 19. The storage medium of claim 15, comprising instructions directing the computer to modify a tooling component configuration in view of a relationship between other tooling components such that the tooling assembly component does not conform to the tooling assembly requirements.
- 20. The storage medium of claim 19, comprising instructions directing the computer to compile a list of tooling components having non-conforming configurations.
- 21. The storage medium of claim 19, comprising instructions directing the computer to gather information from a set of tooling assembly standards and determine the configuration of each tooling component with respect to the set of tooling assembly standards.
- 22. The storage medium of claim 19, comprising instructions directing the computer to create a Master Control File and store tooling component configuration information for the tooling assembly within the Master Control File.
- 23. The storage medium of claim 22, comprising instructions directing the computer to modify information within the Master Control File to alter the tooling assembly configuration.
- 24. The storage medium of claim 19, comprising instructions directing the computer to translate information stored within the Master Control File to information used to produce a graphical output.
- 25. A computer system for automatically designing a tooling assembly, comprising:
a database residing within a memory device of the computer system containing information relevant to the design of the tooling assembly; a Master Control File residing within the memory device of the computer containing requirements for a specific tooling assembly design; a first set of instructions directing the computer to determine requirements for each component in view of information contained within said database; a second set of instructions directing the computer to determine a configuration of said component according to said requirements and store said component configuration within the Master Control File; and a third set of instructions directing the computer to validate each component configuration in view of every other component comprising the tooling assembly.
- 26. The system of claim 25, wherein said database comprises a part database containing tooling assembly application specific information.
- 27. The system of claim 25, wherein said database comprises a standards database containing information containing customer specific preferences.
- 28. The system of claim 25, wherein said database comprises a knowledge database containing tooling assembly design parameters.
- 29. The system of claim 25, wherein said database comprises a component database containing configuration information for components used in designing the tooling assembly.
- 30. The system of claim 25, comprising an interface for converting information stored within said Master Control File into instructions executed by a graphical output device.
