Claims
- 1. A process cartridge removably mountable to an image forming apparatus, said cartridge comprising:
- a photosensitive member;
- a first frame having a toner containing portion for containing a toner to be used for development; and
- a second frame having developing means for developing a latent image formed on said photosensitive member;
- wherein protruding portions are provided along abutment areas of one of said first and second frames, an abutment portion is provided on the other frame, and the abutment portion is fitted between the protruding portions and abutted onto the abutment areas upon connecting said first and second frames to each other.
- 2. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein a dowel is provided on one end of the abutment portion, and an engage hole into which said dowel is fitted is provided on a corresponding abutment area.
- 3. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein said first and second frames are connected by ultrasonic welding.
- 4. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein said protruding portions are provided on said first frame, and said second frame is welded to said first frame by ultrasonic welding so that the abutment portion is connected with the protruding portions.
- 5. A process cartridge according to claim 4, wherein said photosensitive member comprises an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, said first and second frames are welded together by the ultrasonic welding, and a third frame including said electrophotographic photosensitive drum, charger means for charging the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, and cleaning means for removing the toner on the electrophotographic photosensitive drum is rockably connected to said first and second frames.
- 6. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein said protruding portions are provided along at least one of upper and lower ends of the abutment areas.
- 7. A process cartridge according to claim 1, wherein the process cartridge integrally incorporates therein an electrophotographic photosensitive drum as said photosensitive member, and charger means, for charging the electrophotographic photosensitive member and one of developing means for developing a latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive drum and cleaning means for cleaning the toner remaining on the electrophotographic photosensitive drum as a unit which can be removably mounted to said image forming apparatus.
- 8. A process cartridge removably mountable to an image forming apparatus, said cartridge comprising:
- a photosensitive member;
- a first frame having a toner containing portion for containing a toner to be used for development; and
- a second frame having developing means for developing a latent image formed on said photosensitive member,
- wherein flanges are provided at both edges of abutment areas formed on one of said first and second frames and an abutment portion is formed on the other frame, and the abutment portion is fitted between said flanges and abutted onto the abutment areas upon connecting said first and second frames to each other.
- 9. A process cartridge according to claim 8, wherein a dowel is provided on one end of the abutment portion in a longitudinal direction thereof, and an engage hole into which said dowel is fitted is provided on one abutment area.
- 10. A process cartridge according to claim 8, wherein said first and second frames are connected to each other by ultrasonic welding.
- 11. A process cartridge according to claim 10, wherein said photosensitive member comprises an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, said first and second frames are welded together by the ultrasonic welding and a third frame including said electrophotographic photosensitive drum, charger means for charging the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, and cleaning means for removing the toner on the electrophotographic photosensitive drum is rockably connected to said first and second frames.
- 12. A process cartridge according to claim 8, wherein said first and second frames are welded together by ultrasonic welding such that said flanges are connected to the abutment portion.
- 13. A process cartridge according to claim 8, wherein said flanges are provided along at least one of upper and lower ends of the abutment areas, and said first frame and said second frame are welded by ultrasonic welding so that the abutment portion is connected to said flanges.
- 14. A process cartridge according to claim 8, wherein the process cartridge integrally incorporates therein an electrophotographic photosensitive drum as said photosensitive member, charge means for charging said electrophotographic photosensitive drum, developing means for developing a latent image formed on the photosensitive drum and cleaning means for removing toner remaining on the electrophotographic photosensitive drum.
- 15. A process cartridge according to claim 8, wherein the process cartridge integrally incorporates therein said photosensitive member, and at least one of charger means, developing means, and cleaning means as said process means, as a unit which can be removably mounted to the image forming apparatus.
- 16. A process cartridge according to claim 7, wherein the process cartridge integrally incorporates therein said photosensitive member, and at least developing means as said process means, as a unit which can be removably mounted to the image forming apparatus.
- 17. An image forming apparatus to which a process cartridge is removably mounted to form an image on a recording medium, comprising:
- mounting means for removably mounting said process cartridge onto said image forming apparatus, said process cartridge including a photosensitive member, a first frame having a toner containing portion for containing toner to be used for development, a second frame having developing means for developing a latent image formed on said photosensitive member, said first frame having abutment areas, protruding portions being provided at one edge of the abutment areas, and said second frame having an abutment portion to be connected with said abutment means, wherein the abutment portion is fitted between the protruding portions and abutted onto the abutment areas; and
- conveying means for conveying the recording medium.
- 18. An image forming apparatus according to claim 17, wherein a dowel is provided on one end of the abutment portion, and an engage hole into which said dowel is fitted is provided in a corresponding abutment area.
- 19. An image forming apparatus according to claim 17, wherein said first and second frames are connected to each other by ultrasonic welding.
- 20. An image forming apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said photosensitive member comprises an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, said first and second frames are welded together by the ultrasonic welding and a third frame including said electrophotographic photosensitive drum, charger means for charging the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, and cleaning means for removing the toner on the electrophotographic photosensitive drum is rockably connected to said first and second frames.
- 21. An image forming apparatus according to claim 17, wherein said first and second frames are welded together by ultrasonic welding such that the protruding portions are connected with the abutment portion.
- 22. An image forming apparatus according to claim 17, wherein the protruding portions are provided along one of upper and lower ends of the abutment areas and said first and second frames are welded by ultrasonic welding so that the abutment portion is connected to the protruding portions.
- 23. An image forming apparatus according to claim 17, wherein the process cartridge integrally incorporates therein the photosensitive member, and charger means, developing means, and cleaning means, as a unit which can be removably mounted to the image forming apparatus.
- 24. A toner frame used for a process cartridge removably mountable onto a main body of an image forming apparatus, said process cartridge including an electrophotographic photosensitive member and developing means for developing a latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, said toner frame being connectable with a developing frame having a developing means attachment portion for attaching the developing means, and comprising:
- a toner containing portion for containing toner to be used by the developing means;
- an opening for supplying the toner contained in said toner containing portion to the developing means;
- abutment areas provided on both edges of the opening along a longitudinal direction thereof; and
- protruding portions provided along an edge of the abutment areas that is farthest from the opening in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction,
- wherein the abutment areas and protruding portions are arranged so that an abutment portion of the developing frame is disposed between the protruding portions in a state where said toner frame is connected with said developing frame.
- 25. A toner frame according to claim 24, further comprising an engaging hole provided in one of the abutment areas with which a dowel provided on the developing frame engages in a state where said toner frame is connected with the developing frame.
- 26. A toner frame according to claim 25, wherein the engaging holes are provided in abutment areas at both ends of said toner frame in a longitudinal direction thereof.
- 27. A toner frame according to claim 24 or 26, further comprising a seal member attachment portion on which a seal member is attached to seal the opening, said seal member being removed by an operator prior to usage of the process cartridge.
- 28. A toner frame according to one of claims 24 and 26, wherein said toner frame and the developing frame are connected by a weld at the abutment areas of said toner frame and the abutment portion of the developing frame.
- 29. A toner frame according to claim 28, wherein the weld is an ultrasonic weld.
- 30. A toner frame according to claim 24, wherein the protruded portions are provided along both edges of the abutment areas in the short direction of the opening over full width thereof.
- 31. A process cartridge removably mountable onto a main body of an image forming apparatus said cartridge, comprising:
- an electrophotographic photosensitive member;
- developing means for developing a latent image formed on said electrophotographic photosensitive member;
- a developing frame for supporting said developing means; and
- a toner frame being connected with said developing frame and including a toner containing portion for containing toner to be used by the developing means, an opening for supplying the toner contained in said toner containing portion to the developing means, abutment areas onto which an abutment portion of said developing frame is abutted when said toner frame is connected with said developing frame, wherein,
- said abutment areas are provided at both sides of the opening in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction, protruding portions are provided along outer edges of the abutment areas on both sides of the opening, and the abutment portion is disposed between the protruding portions when the toner frame and the developing frame are connected to each other.
- 32. A process cartridge according to claim 31, further comprising an engaging hole provided on one of the abutment areas with which a dowel provided on said developing frame engages in a state where said toner frame is connected with said developing frame.
- 33. A process cartridge according to claim 31, wherein the engaging holes are provided in abutment areas at both ends of said toner frame in a longitudinal direction thereof.
- 34. A process cartridge according to claim 31 or 33, further comprising a seal member attachment portion to which a seal member is attached to seal the opening, said seal member being removed from the seal member attachment portion by an operator prior to usage of the process cartridge.
- 35. A process cartridge according to claim 31 or 33, wherein said toner frame and the developing frame are connected by a welding at the abutment portion of said developing frame and the abutment areas of said toner frame.
- 36. A process cartridge according to claim 35, wherein the weld is an ultrasonic weld.
- 37. A process cartridge according to claim 31, further comprising a drum frame for supporting the electrophotographic photosensitive member, said drum frame being rockably connected to the toner frame and the developing frame.
- 38. A process cartridge according to claim 31 further comprising a charging member for charging said electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 39. A process cartridge according to claim 31 or 38, further comprising cleaning means for removing toner remaining on the electrophotographic photosensitive member.
- 40. An image forming apparatus onto which a process cartridge is removably mountable for forming an image on a recording medium, said apparatus comprising:
- mounting means for removably mounting a process cartridge including an electrophotographic photosensitive member, developing means for developing a latent image formed on said electrophotographic photosensitive member, a developing frame for supporting said developing means, a toner frame being connected with said developing frame and having a toner containing portion for containing a toner to be used by the developing means, a toner supply opening for supplying the toner contained in said toner containing portion to the developing means, said toner frame having abutment areas onto which an abutment portion of said developing frame is abutted when said toner frame and said developing frame are connected, the abutment areas being provided at both sides of the toner supply opening in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction thereof, and protruding portions being provided along outer edges of the abutment areas on both sides of the toner supply opening, the abutment portion being disposed between the protruding portions when the toner frame and the developing frame are connected to each other; and
- convey means for conveying a recording medium.
- 41. A method for connecting a toner frame and a developing frame which are used for a process cartridge removably mountable onto a main body of an image forming apparatus, the process cartridge including an electrophotographic photosensitive drum and developing means for developing a latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, comprising steps of:
- a step of preparing a toner frame having a toner containing portion for containing toner to be used by the developing means, an opening for supplying the toner contained in said toner containing portion to the developing means, abutment areas provided at both sides of the opening in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction thereof and onto which an abutment portion of the developing frame is abutted, when the toner frame and the developing frame are connected with each other, and protruding portions provided along outer edges of the abutment areas on both sides of the opening;
- a step of preparing a developing frame having a developing means attachment portion for attaching the developing means, and an abutment portion; and
- a step for connecting the developing frame and the toner frame so that the abutment portion of the developing frame is positioned between the protruding portions of the toner frame.
- 42. A connecting method according to claim 41, further, comprising a step for engaging an engaging dowel of the developing frame and an engaging opening of the toner frame.
- 43. A connecting method according to claim 41 or 42, further comprising a step of attaching a seal member to the toner frame for sealing the opening before the toner frame and the developing frame are connected, the seal member being removed from the toner frame by an operator prior to usage of the process cartridge.
- 44. A connecting method according to claim 41 or 42, wherein the toner frame and the developing frame are connected by welding at the abutment areas of said toner frame and the abutment portion of said developing frame.
- 45. A connecting method according to claim 44, wherein the welding is a super ultrasonic welding.
- 46. A method for assembling a process cartridge removably mountable onto a main body of an image forming apparatus, the process cartridge including an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, a developing roller for developing a latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive drum, a developing frame supporting the developing roller, a toner frame, and a drum frame, said method comprising the steps of:
- preparing a toner frame having a toner containing portion for containing toner to be used by the developing roller, an opening for supplying the toner contained in the toner containing portion to the developing roller, abutment areas onto which an abutment portion of the developing frame is abutted when the toner frame and the developing frame are connected to each other, the abutment areas being provided at both sides of the opening in a direction orthogonal to a longitudinal direction thereof, and protruding portions provided along outer edges of the abutment areas on both sides of the opening;
- preparing a developing frame having a developing roller attaching portion for attaching the developing roller, and an abutment portion;
- connecting the developing frame and the toner frame so that the abutment portion of the developing frame is positioned between the protruding portions of the toner frame;
- preparing a drum frame for supporting the electrophotographic photosensitive drum; and
- connecting the drum frame rockably to the toner frame and developing frame.
- 47. An assembling method according to claim 46, further comprising a step of engaging an engaging dowel of the developing frame and an engaging opening of the toner frame.
- 48. An assembling method according to claim 46, further comprising a step of attaching a seal member to the toner frame for sealing the opening before the toner frame and the developing frame are connected, the seal member being removed from the toner frame by an operator prior to usage of the process cartridge.
- 49. An assembling method according to claim 46, wherein the toner frame and the developing frame are connected by a welding at the abutment area of the toner frame and the abutment portion of the developing frame.
- 50. An assembling method according to claim 46, wherein the welding is a super ultrasonic welding.
- 51. A process cartridge removably mountable to an image forming apparatus, said process cartridge comprising:
- a photosensitive drum on which an electrostatic latent image may be formed;
- a first frame including a toner containing portion, having a toner opening formed therein, an abutted surface, and a protruding portion that protrudes from said abutted surface away from said toner containing portion and extends substantially along a length of each of a top edge and a bottom edge of said first frame;
- a second frame in which a developing device having a developing sleeve is disposed, said second frame including longitudinal ribs running substantially a length of said second frame, lateral ribs connecting said longitudinal ribs so as to form rib members having a substantially rectangular cross section and disposed on a front side of said second frame, and an abutting surface disposed on a back side of said second frame;
- a cover film positionable between said first frame and said second frame such that said toner opening in said toner containing portion of said first frame is sealed; and
- a draw-out grip separably attached to said first frame and attached to said cover film such that said cover film may be drawn from between said first frame and said second frame,
- wherein said abutting surface is fitted between said protruding portions and abutted onto said abutted surface upon connecting said first frame and said second frame to each other, and
- wherein one of said first frame and said second frame further includes a plurality of fitting projections and the other of said first frame and said second frame further includes a plurality of fitting projection receptors corresponding to each of said plurality of fitting projections, each of said fitting projections being fitted into a corresponding fitting projection receptor when said first frame is joined to said second frame.
- 52. A process cartridge removably mountable to an image forming apparatus, said process cartridge comprising:
- a photosensitive drum on which an electrostatic latent image may be formed;
- a first frame including a toner containing portion, having a toner opening formed therein, an abutted surface, and a protruding portion that protrudes from said abutted surface away from said toner containing portion and extends substantially along a length of each of a top edge and a bottom edge of said first frame;
- a second frame in which a developing device having a developing sleeve is disposed,
- wherein said abutting surface is fitted between said protruding portions and abutted onto said abutted surface upon connecting said first frame and said second frame to each other, and
- wherein one of said first frame and said second frame further includes a plurality of fitting projections and the other of said first frame and said second frame further includes plurality of fitting projection receptors corresponding to each of said plurality of fitting projections, each of said fitting projections being fitted into a corresponding fitting projection receptor when said first frame is joined to said second frame.
- 53. A toner frame usable with a process cartridge removably mountable onto a main body of a image forming apparatus, the process cartridge including an electrophotographic photosensitive member and a developing device that develops a latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, said toner frame being connectable with a developing frame having a developing device attachment portion to which the developing device may be attached, said toner frame comprising:
- a toner containing portion in which toner to be used by the developing device may be contained;
- an opening through which the toner contained in said toner containing portion may be supplied to the developing device;
- an abutted surface provided on both edges of said opening along a longitudinal direction thereof;
- a cover film attachable to said abutted surface so as to seal said opening;
- a draw-out grip separably attached to said toner frame and attached to said cover film such that said cover film may be drawn away from said toner frame; and
- protruding portions provided along each edge of said abutted surface that is farthest from said opening in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction,
- wherein said abutted surface and said protruding portions are arranged so that an abutting surface of the developing frame is disposed between said protruding portions in a state where said toner frame is connected with the developing frame.
- 54. A toner frame usable with a process cartridge removably mountable onto a main body of an image forming apparatus, the process cartridge including an electrophotographic photosensitive member and a developing device that develops a latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, said toner frame being connectable with a developing frame having a developing device attachment portion to which the developing device may be attached, said toner frame comprising:
- a toner containing portion in which toner to be used by the developing device may be contained;
- an opening through which the toner contained in said toner containing portion may be supplied to the developing device;
- an abutted surface provided on both edges of said opening along a longitudinal direction thereof; and
- protruding portions provided along each edge of said abutted surface that is farthest from said opening in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction,
- wherein said abutted surface and said protruding portions are arranged so that an abutting surface of the developing frame is disposed between said protruding portions in a state where said toner frame is connected with the developing frame.
- 55. A toner developing frame usable with a photosensitive drum mounting frame on which is supported a developing device that develops an electrostatic latent image on a photosensitive drum disposed in the photosensitive drum mounting frame, said toner developing frame comprising:
- a first frame including a toner containing portion, having a toner opening formed therein, an abutted surface, and a protruding portion that protrudes from said abutted surface away from said toner containing portion and extends substantially along a length of each of a top edge and a bottom edge of said first frame;
- a second frame on which the developing device having a latent image developing sleeve is mounted, said second frame including longitudinal ribs running substantially a length of said second frame, lateral ribs connecting said longitudinal ribs so as to form rib members having a substantially rectangular cross section and disposed on a front side of said second frame, and an abutting surface disposed on a back side of said second frame;
- a cover film positionable between said first frame and said second frame such that said toner opening in said toner containing portion of said first frame may be sealed; and
- a draw-out grip separably attached to said first frame and attached to said cover film such that said cover film may be drawn from between said first frame and said second frame,
- wherein said abutting surface is fitted between said protruding portions and abutted onto said abutted surface upon connecting said first frame and said second frame to each other, and
- wherein one of said first frame and said second frame further includes a plurality of fitting projections and the other of said first frame and said second frame further includes a plurality of fitting projection receptors corresponding to each of said plurality of fitting projections, each of said fitting projections being fitted into a corresponding fitting projection receptor when said first frame is joined to said second frame.
