Claims
- 1. A process for applying a skin care composition to at least a portion of a substrate comprising the steps of:
(a) forming a skin care composition comprising:
(i) a carrier; (ii) at least one skin care ingredient; and (iii) an effective amount of at least one rheological agent; and (b) applying the skin care composition to at least a portion of an absorbent article; wherein the composition has an elastic modulus of at least about 5 dynes/cm2 measured at a strain rate of 0.2%, an oscillation frequency of 10 rad/sec, and a temperature of 77° C.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein step (b) is selected from the group consisting of spraying, printing, contact slot coating, gravure coating, dipping, extrusion, or combinations thereof.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein the process further comprises cooling the skin care composition to a temperature sufficiently low such that the composition solidifies.
- 4. The process of claim 1 wherein the skin care composition comprises:
from about 5 to about 95 wt % of the carrier; from about 0.001 to about 70 wt % of the skin care ingredient; and from about 0.1 to about 25 wt % of the rheological agent.
- 5. The process of claim 4 wherein
the carrier is selected from the group consisting of petroleum-based emollients, fatty acid esters, polysiloxanes, sucrose eater fatty acids, alkyl ethoxylates, humectants, lanolin and derivatives, and mixtures thereof; the skin care ingredient is selected from the group consisting of Monograph Category I actives, Monograph Category III actives, enzyme inhibitors, protease inhibitors, chelating agents, anti-microbials, proton donating agents, aloe extract, and mixtures thereof; and the rheological agent is selected from the group consisting of untreated fumed silicas, treated fumed silicas, organoclays, metal fatty ester soaps, calcium silicates, polymeric thickeners, natural or organic thickeners, anionic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants, and mixtures thereof.
- 6. The process of claim 5 wherein the skin care ingredient is substantially insoluble in the carrier and comprises particles having an average particle size of less than about 1000 microns.
- 7. The process of claim 6 wherein the skin care ingredient comprises particles having an average particle size of less than about 100 microns.
- 8. The process claim 7 wherein the skin care ingredient is zinc oxide.
- 9. The process of claim 7 wherein the skin care ingredient comprises particles having an average particle size of less than about 50 microns.
- 10. The process of claim 3 wherein the portion of the absorbent article comprises a skin-contacting surface selected from the group consisting of a topsheet, a backsheet, a leg cuff, a side panel, a waist region, a secondary layer, a liner, and combinations thereof.
