Claims
- 1. In a process which comprises the cracking, in the absence of added hydrogen, of a metals-containing hydrocarbon feed in a cracking zone under cracking conditions employing a cracking catalyst having high activity; the improvement which comprises combining with said catalyst a diluent consisting essentially of alumina to form a catalyst composite containing a weight ratio of said high activity cracking catalyst to alumina in the range of 50:50 to 90:10, said diluent forming a separate and distinct entity within said catalyst composite.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein said diluent is combined with said cracking catalyst prior to contacting said hydrocarbon feed in said cracking zone.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein said diluent is introduced into said cracking zone in combination with said feed.
- 4. The process of claim 2 wherein said cracking catalyst is a catalyst at equilibrium conditions in said cracking zone.
- 5. The process of claim 1 wherein said diluent is combined with said cracking catalyst so as to maintain a conversion of at least 55 percent in said cracking zone.
- 6. The process of claim 1 wherein said metal contaminant is vanadium.
- 7. The process of claim 1 wherein said metal contaminant is vanadium and the concentration of vanadium on said catalyst composite is at least 5000 ppm.
- 8. The process of claim 1 wherein the concentration of nickel, vanadium and iron contaminants on said catalyst composite is in the range of 4000 to 20,000 ppm.
