Claims
- 1. A hydroconversion process comprising the conversion of feed materials boiling at least about 700.degree. F. wherein the feed is converted at conversion conditions of elevated temperatures and pressures in the presence of hydrogen and a catalyst comprising one or more metals selected from the group consisting of Group VIII metals, Group VI metals, Group 1B metals or mixtures thereof incorporated into a pillared clay comprising zirconium oxide pillars having a gallery height of .gtoreq.4 to .ltoreq.7 Angstroms wherein the clay is selected from the group consisting of swellable smectites and micas and the clay is capable of maintaining at least about 80% of the gallery height after heating to temperatures of >300.degree. C.
- 2. The process of claim 1 characterized in that catalytic metal is selected from the group consisting of platinum, palladium and mixtures thereof.
- 3. The process of claim 1 characterized in that the hydroconversion conditions comprise
- temperatures of 450-750.degree. F.
- pressures of 15-100 bar
- hydrogen treat rates of 500-10,000 SCF/B.
- 4. The process of claim 3 characterized in that the conversion ranges from about 20-80% based on 700.degree. F.+feed.
