Claims
- 1. A process for manufacture of tunnel tube modules comprising the steps of:
- (a) forming a flat rectangular-shaped steel plate substantially in the size required to form a rolled-up cylindrical-shaped tunnel module shell,
- (b) positioning said plate on a horizontally-disposed roll-up table,
- (c) positioning a collapsible cylindrically-shaped roll-up fixture on said plate,
- (d) rolling up said plate around the circumference of said fixture by rolling said fixture along said roll-up table,
- (e) adjusting the diameter of said fixture slightly to compensate for any variance in the length of said plate and to allow the ends of said plate to be joined, and
- (f) joining the ends of said plate together to form a tube.
- 2. The process as set forth in claim 1 further comprising the step of adjusting the diameter of said fixture to allow the ends of said plate to meet.
- 3. The process as set forth in claim 1 further comprising the step of welding the ends of said plate together.
- 4. A process for manufacture of tunnel tube modules comprising the steps of:
- (a) forming a flat rectangular-shaped steel plate substantially in the size required to form a rolled-up cylindrical-shaped tunnel module shell,
- (b) positioning a collapsible cylindrically-shaped roll-up fixture on said plate,
- (c) rolling up said plate around the circumference of said fixture by rotating said fixture about its axis,
- (d) adjusting the diameter of said fixture slightly to compensate for any variance in the length of said plate,
- (e) overlapping the ends of said plate and cutting off the overlapping excess, and
- (f) joining the ends of said plate together to form a tube.
- 5. The process as set forth in claim 4 further comprising the step of adjusting the diameter of said fixture to allow the ends of said plate to meet.
- 6. The process as set forth in claim 4 further comprising the step of welding the ends of said plate together.
- 7. A process for manufacture of tunnel tube modules comprising the steps of:
- (a) forming a flat rectangular-shaped steel plate substantially in the size required to form a rolled-up cylindrical-shaped tunnel module
- (b) positioning a collapsible cylindrically-shaped roll-up fixture on said plate,
- (c) rolling up said plate around the circumference of said fixture by rotating said fixture about its axis,
- (d) overlapping the ends of said plate and cutting off the overlapping excess, and
- (e) welding the ends of said plate together to form a tube.
- 8. The process as set forth in claim 7 further comprising the step of adjusting the diameter of said fixture to allow the ends of said plate to meet.
- 9. A process for manufacture of tunnel tube modules comprising the steps of:
- (a) forming a flat rectangular-shaped steel plate substantially in the size required to form a rolled-up cylindrical-shaped tunnel module shell,
- (b) positioning a collapsible cylindrically-shaped roll-up fixture on said plate,
- (c) rolling up said plate around the circumference of said fixture by rotating said fixture about its axis,
- (d) adjusting the diameter of said fixture slightly to compensate for any variance in the length of said plate and to allow the ends of said plate to meet, said adjusting being performed by activating cylinder means coupled to said fixture for altering the overall diameter of said fixture, and
- (e) joining the ends of said plate together to form a tube.
- 10. The process as set forth in claim 9 further comprising the step of welding the ends of said plate together.
- 11. The process as set forth in claim 9 wherein said cylinder means is a short-throw hydraulic cylinder means.
- 12. A process for manufacture of tunnel tube modules comprising the steps of:
- (a) forming a flat rectangular-shaped steel plate substantially in the size required to form a rolled-up cylindrical-shaped tunnel module shell,
- (b) positioning a collapsible cylindrically-shaped roll-up fixture on said plate,
- (c) rolling up said plate around the circumference of said fixture by rotating said fixture about its axis,
- (d) activating cylinder means coupled to said fixture for altering the overall diameter of said fixture and thereby adjusting the diameter of the fixture to compensate for any variance in length of said plate and to allow the ends of said plate to meet, and
- (e) joining the ends of said plate together to form a tube.
- 13. The process as set forth in claim 12 wherein said cylinder means is a short-throw hydraulic cylinder means.
- 14. The process as set forth in claim 12 wherein the ends of said plate are joined together by welding.
- 15. A process for manufacture of tunnel tube modules comprising the steps of:
- (a) forming a flat rectangular-shaped steel plate substantially in the size required to form a rolled-up cylindrical-shaped tunnel module shell,
- (b) positioning a collapsible cylindrically-shaped roll-up fixture on said plate,
- (c) rolling up said plate around the circumference of said fixture by rotating said fixture about its axis,
- (d) elastically altering the shape of said fixture in order to adjust its diameter slightly and compensate for any variance in the length of said plate and to allow the ends of said plate to meet, and
- (e) joining the ends of said plate together to form a tube.
- 16. The process as set forth in claim 15 further comprising the step of welding the ends of said plate together.
