Claims
- 1. A process for producing alumina comprising:
- mixing an effective concentration of anionic fluorohydrocarbon surfactant into an aqueous alum solution having 8.2 weight percent of aluminum oxide;
- feeding with agitation said mixed anionic fluorohydrocarbon surfactant and aqueous alum solution into water heated to 45.degree. C. to obtain a pH of 3.0 to 3.5
- feeding with agitation aqueous sodium aluminate, having 18.3 percent sodium oxide and 20 percent aluminum oxide, into said mixed anionic fluorohydrocarbon surfactant and aqueous alum solution to obtain a pH of 9.0 of a combined slurry;
- filtering said combined slurry to obtain a filter cake;
- washing said filter cake with ammoniated water at 60.degree. C. and at a pH of 8;
- slurrying said filter cake; and
- drying said slurried filter cake to form a free-flowing powder.
