Claims
- 1. A process which comprises (1) subjecting a superconductor to annealing temperature conditions, (2) applying an external field to the superconductor to induce a current flow during the annealing period, and (3) cooling the superconductor to ambient temperature; wherein the superconductor exhibits a higher critical temperature T.sub.c after the process treatment.
- 2. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the superconductor is a metal composition corresponding to the formula:
- A.sub.3 B
- where A is selected from the group consisting of niobium and vanadium, and B is selected from the group consisting of aluminum, gallium, indium, silicon, germanium and tin.
- 3. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the annealing temperature is in the range between about 400.degree. C. and the melting point of the superconductor.
- 4. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the annealing conditions are maintained for a period between about 0.5-10 hours.
- 5. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the applied external field is an electric field.
- 6. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the applied external field is a magnetic field.
- 7. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the applied external field is a combination of an electric field and a magnetic field.
- 8. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the induced current flow has a current density of at least about 0.1 ampere per square centimeter, and up to about 100 amperes per square centimeter.
- 9. A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the cooling of the superconductor is at a rate less than about two degrees per minute while maintaining the applied external field.
