Claims
- 1. A process for manufacturing a dispenser for delivering a beneficial agent to a biological environment of use, wherein the dispenser comprises: a capsule comprising a composition dissolvable at least in part in a fluid present in the environment in use said capsule comprising a mouth, a cap for the capsule and an exterior wall on the capsule, and wherein the process comprises the step of:
- (a) forming a layer comprising a hydrophilic composition into a shape corresponding to the internal shape of the mouth of the capsule;
- (b) inserting the layer through the mouth to the bottom of the capsule;
- (c) capping the mouth of the capsule with a cap designed to close the capsule to provide an assembled capsule;
- (d) surrounding the assembled capsule with an exterior wall permeable to the passage of fluid and substantially impermeable to the passage of a beneficial agent; and,
- (e) drilling a port through the wall and through the capsule distant from the layer for communicating with the interior of the dispenser.
- 2. A process for manufacturing a dispenser comprising:
- a capsule comprising a composition dissolvable at least in part in fluid present in the environment in use and an exterior wall on the capsule for delivering a beneficial agent to a biological environment of use, wherein the process comprises the steps of:
- (a) adding a composition into the bottom of the capsule, said composition comprising a beneficial agent and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for dispensing the beneficial agent to the biological environment;
- (b) adding means for expanding and assisting in the delivery of the beneficial agent into the capsule in contacting laminar arrangement with the composition;
- (c) coating the exterior of the capsule with an exterior wall comprising a composition permeable to the passage of fluid and impermeable to the passage of the beneficial agent; and,
- (d) drilling an orifice through the exterior wall and through the capsule for connecting the interior of the capsule and the composition for dispensing the beneficial agent to the environment of use.
- 3. A process for manufacturing a dispenser comprising a capsule comprising a composition dissolvable at least in part in fluid present in the environment in use said capsule comprising a mouth and an exterior wall coated thereon for delivering a beneficial agent to a biological environment of use, wherein the process comprises the step of:
- (a) inserting means for imbibing fluid from the biological environment of use and for occupying an increasing volume of the capsule into the mouth of the capsule;
- (b) coating the exterior wall of the capsule with a semipermeable composition permeable to the passage of fluid present in the environment of use;
- (c) drilling an orifice through the semipermeable wall and through the capsule distant from the means for imbibing fluid for communicating with the interior of the capsule; and,
- (d) filling the capsule through the orifice with a beneficial agent composition.
- 4. A process for manufacturing a dispenser comprising: a two piece capsule comprising a composition dissolvable at least in part in fluid present in the environment in use, which capsule comprises a body member with an internal lumen and a cap, and an exterior wall thereon, for delivering a beneficial agent composition to a biological environment of use, wherein the process comprises the steps of:
- (a) adding means for absorbing heat from the environment of use into the lumen of the body member of a two piece capsule, which means comprises a beneficial agent and a carrier for the agent that absorbs heat from the biological environment when the dispenser is in operation in said environment;
- (b) inserting means for imbibing fluid from the biological environment into the lumen for occupying an increasing volume of the lumen, said means for imbibing fluid in contact with the means for absorbing heat;
- (c) capping the body member of the capsule with the cap to provide an assembled capsule;
- (d) coating the assembled capsule with an exterior semi-permeable wall permeable to the passage of fluid and substantially impermeable to the passage of beneficial agent; and
- (e) drilling an orifice through the semi-permeable wall and through the capsule for communicating with the means comprising the beneficial agent for dispensing the agent through the orifice from the dispenser over time to the environment of use.
