Claims
- 1. An absorbent article comprising a catalyst-free, hydrophilic polyurethane flexible foam comprising at least one super absorbent polymer, wherein said foam is free of releasable mono-, di- or polyhydric alcohol before the foam has been in contact with water or an aqueous solution, and wherein said foam has been made by a process comprising reacting a prepolymer and water in the presence of said superabsorbent polymer;wherein said prepolymer comprises diphenyl methane diisocyanate residues; and wherein said superabsorbent polymer is selected from the groul) consisting of: (i) superabsorbent polymers based on acrylic or methacrylic acids, esters, nitriles, amides and/or salts thereof; (ii) superabsorbent polysaccharides; (iii) superabsorbent maleic anhydride polymers; and (iv) combinations thereof.
- 2. Absorbent article according to claim 1, wherein the foam is based on diphenylmethane diisocyanates.
- 3. Absorbent article according to claim 2, which is free of catalyst, free of surface-active agents, free of foam stabilizers, free of chain extenders, free of cross-linking agents, free of flame retardants, free of fillers, free of pigments, free of agents for suppressing of the boiling foam effect, free of internal mold release agents, free of antiseptics, free of biocides and free of medicaments, but which may contain up to 10 parts of polyoxyethylene/polyoxypropylerne block copolymers having an oxyethylene content of at least 30% by weight and/or of polyoxyethylene, the polymers having an average molecular weight of 500-10000 and an average nominal hydroxyl functionality of 2-6.
- 4. Absorbent article according to claim 2 wherein the foam is free of at least one of surface-active agents, foam stabilizers, chain extenders, cross-linking agents, flame retardants, fillers, pigments, agents for suppressing boiling foam effect, internal mold release agents, antiseptics, biocides and medicaments, optionally having up to 10 parts of polyoxyethylene/polyoxypropylene block copolymers having an oxyethylene content of at least 30% by weight arid/or of polyoxyethylene, the polymers having an average molecular weight of 500-10000 and an average nominal hydroxyl functionality of 2-6.
- 5. The article of claim 1, wherein said foam is an open-celled foam.
- 6. The article of claim 1, wherein said article is a diaper, sponge, wound dressing or tampon.
- 7. An absorbent article comprising a catalyst-free, hydrophilic polyurethane flexible foam wherein said foam is free of releasable mono-, di- or polyhydric alcohol before the foam has been in contact with water or an aqueous solution, and wherein said foam has been made by a process consisting essentially of reacting, a prepolymer and water in the presence of said superabsorbent polymer and optionally a polyoxyethylene polymer surfactant or polyoxyethylene, polyoxypropylene copolymer surfactant, wherein said superabsorbent polymer is selected from the group consisting of:(i) superabsorbent polymers based on acrylic or methacrylic acids, esters, nitriles, amides and/or salts thereof; (ii) superabsorbent polysaccharides; (iii) superabsorbent maleic anhydride polymers; and (iv) combinations thereof.
