Claims
- 1. A process for making a pharmaceutical having the formula R.sub.1 --S--S--R.sub.2 (I);
- wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each -lower alkyll-SO.sub.3 H or -lower alkyl-PO.sub.3 H.sub.2 ; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, said process comprising the steps of:
- a) providing a starting material of the formula HS-R.sub.2, and dissolving the starting material in water to form an aqueous solution;
- b) adding the aqueous solution including the starting material to a reactant vessel, then pressurizing the vessel with oxygen gas to at least 20 psi, and elevating the temperature of the starting material to at least 40.degree. C. to produce the formula I compound.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein step b) includes pressurizing the vessel to at least 30 psi and heating the starting material to at least 60.degree. C.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein the solution is maintained at a pH between 7.2 and 9.0.
- 4. The process of claim 1 wherein the starting material is heated to 60.degree. C. and pressurized to 50 psi.
