Claims
- 1. A crystal useful for recording and reading holograms comprising a single crystal of lithium niobate having at least two dimensions of 1.0 cm or greater and doped with at least 0.145 mol percent of iron wherein at least 50 percent of the iron present exists in the trivalent state.
- 2. The crystal of claim 1, wherein said at least 95 percent of the iron present in said crystal exists in the trivalent state.
- 3. The crystal of claim 1, wherein said at least 99 mol percent of the iron present in said crystal exists in the trivalent state.
- 4. The crystal of claim 1, wherein said crystal has a length, width and depth of 1.0 cm or greater.
- 5. The crystal of claim 2, wherein said crystal has a length, width and depth of 1.0 cm or greater.
- 6. The crystal of claim 3, wherein said crystal has a length, width and depth of 1.0 cm or greater
