Claims
- 1. A process for preparing 3-azabicyclo(3.1.0)hexane-2-carboxylic acid which comprises treating at a temperature of from about 40.degree. C. to about 120.degree. C. a compound of the formula: ##STR5## wherein each R.sup.1 is alkyl and contains from one to four carbon atoms, said compound being in the cis-isomeric configuration, with a stoichiometric excess of up to about ten percent of a cyanide in the presence of at least the stoichiometric amount of an alkane carboxylic acid of from two to five carbon atoms and treating the resulting crude product containing the corresponding 3-alkanoyl-3-azabicyclo(3.1.0)hexane-2-carbonitrile with a stoichiometric amount of a strong inorganic acid.
- 2. A process according to claim 1 wherein each R.sup.1 is ethyl, the cyanide is sodium or potassium cyanide, the alkanecarboxylic acid is acetic acid, and the strong inorganic acid is hydrochloric acid.
