Claims
- 1. A process for increasing the filterability of a particle principally comprised of a bisimide having the formula, ##STR2## wherein R is an alkylene radical containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms and b is 1 or 0, said process comprising, cooking the particle at a temperature within the range of from about 140.degree. C. to about 200.degree. C. for a period sufficient to obtain an increase in the average sphericity of the particle, said sphericity being defined as the ratio of the surface area of a sphere having a volume of the particle being measured to the surface area of that particle.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein the cooking occurs for a period of from about 2 to about 5 hours.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein the particle is part of a water containing slurry during the cooking period and is recovered from the remainder of the slurry subsequent to the cooking period.
- 4. The process of claim 3 wherein the recovery occurs at a temperature of from about 65.degree. C. to about 85.degree. C.
- 5. The process of claim 3 wherein the slurry additionally contains propionic acid.
- 6. The process of claim 5 wherein the slurry additionally contains o-, m-, p- xylene or mixtures of such xylenes.
- 7. The process of claim 6 wherein the recover occurs at a temperature of form about 65.degree. C. to about 85.degree. C.
- 8. The process of claim 3 wherein the recovered particle is washed with a wash solvent comprised of non-polar solvent and an organic acid.
- 9. The process of claim 8 wherein the non-polar solvent is xylene.
- 10. The process of claim 8 wherein the organic acid is propionic acid.
- 11. The process of claim 10 wherein the non-polar solvent is xylene.
- 12. The process of claim 8 wherein the wash solvent used is at least one void volume.
- 13. The process of claim 8 wherein the washing occurs at a temperature within the range of from about 0.degree. C. to about 200.degree. C.
- 14. The process of claim 8 wherein the wash solvent is comprised of from about 15 to about 30 weight percent propionic acid and from about 85 to about 70 weight percent o-, m- or p-xylene, mixtures of such xylenes or mixtures of ethylbenzene and o-, m- and p-xylenes, and the amount of the wash solvent used is at least about one void volume.
- 15. The process of claim 1 wherein R is an ethylene radical.
- 16. The process of claim 1 wherein b is 0.
- 17. The process of claim 3 wherein R is an ethylene radical.
- 18. The process of claim 3 wherein b is 0.
