Claims
- 1. A process for increasing the rate of formation of di-alkyl carbonate via oxidative carbonylation of the corresponding lower alkanol in the presence of a catalyst system wherein said catalyst system consists essentially of a copper alkoxy halide and a quantity of between 0.5 and 10 mol % of CuX.sub.2 with respect to the total moles of copper, where X is a halogen atom; and wherein the overall halogen to copper molar ratio ranges from 1.005 to 1.100.
- 2. A process as defined in claim 1, wherein said lower alkanol is methanol, said X is chlorine; and wherein said reaction is effected at a temperature of between 50.degree. and 200.degree. C. an at a pressure of between 1 and 100 atmospheres.
- 3. A process as defined in claim 2 wherein the catalyst system contains a CuX.sub.2 quantity of between 2.5 and 10 mol % with respect to the total moles of copper; and wherein the overall halogen to copper molar ratio ranges from 1.025 to 1.100.
