Claims
- 1. A process for the preparation of a compound of the formula ##STR6## wherein X together with the carbon atoms to which it attaches is a thienyl radical R is hydrogen or straight or branched chain alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms; R.sup.1 is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R.sup.2 is hydrogen or methyl; n is the integer 1, 2 or 3; and salts prepared from pharmaceutically acceptable bases which comprises cyclizing, with a dehydrating agent at a temperature of from 50.degree. to 125.degree. C. and for a time of 5 minutes to 12 hours, a dicarboxylic acid of the formula ##STR7## wherein X and the carbon atoms to which it attaches, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and n are as defined earlier.
- 2. A process as defined in claim 1 for preparing a 4,10-dihydro-10-oxothieno[3,2-c][1[benzoxepin-alkanoic acid which comprises cyclizing a dicarboxylic acid of the formula ##STR8##
- 3. A process as defined in claim 1 for preparing 4,10-dihydro-10-oxothieno[3,2-c][1]benzoxepin-8-acetic acid which comprises cyclizing the dicarboxylic acid of the formula ##STR9##
- 4. The process as defined in claim 1 wherein the cyclizing is carried out in the presence of a dehydrating agent selected from the group consisting of polyphosphoric acid, ethanol-phosphorus pentoxide and sulfuric acid.
- 5. The process as defined in claim 1 wherein the cyclizing is carried out with a solvent selected from the group consisting of tetramethylenesulfone and acetic acid.
