Claims
- 1. The method of preparing compounds of the formula: ##STR4## in which: R.sub.1 is hydrogen, lower alkyl of 1-6 carbons or phenyl; and
- X.sup..crclbar. is chloride or bromide, or its acid addition salts, comprising heating in an inert organic solvent until the evolution of gas is complete a compound of the formula: ##STR5## in which R.sub.1 and X.sup..crclbar. are as defined above and R is --SO.sub.2 H or carbo-lower-alkoxy; or its acid addition salts.
- 2. The method of claim 1 in which:
- R.sub.1 is methyl and R is carbomethoxy and the temperature is from about 170.degree.-250.degree..
- 3. The method of claim 1 in which the dry starting material is heated at or above its decomposition point.
