Claims
- 1. A process for preparing a retort-proof coated aluminum substrate for packaging foodstuffs, which process comprises coating an aluminum substrate with a specific polyolefin resin prepared by incorporating aluminum hydroxide with copolymerized (A) and (B), where (A) is at least one member selected from the polyolefin resin group consisting of highdensity polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene-propylene copolymers and polybutene, and (B) is maleic anhydride, and by rendering the so-modified polyolefin resin substantially free from unreacted maleic anhydride and low molecular weight maleic anhydride homopolymers, and thereafter forming a suitable retort packaging container therefrom.
- 2. A process for preparing a retort-proof laminate for packaging foodstuffs which comprises laminating an aluminum substrate to at least one polyolefin film selected from the group consisting of high density-polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene-propylene copolymers and polybutene films using as an adhesive a specific polyolefin resin prepared by incorporating aluminum hydroxide with copolymerized (A) and (B), where (A) is at least one member selected from the polyolefin resin group consisting of high-density polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene-propylene copolymers and polybutene, and (B) is maleic anhydride, and by rendering the so-modified polyolefin resin substantially free from unreacted maleic anhydride and low molecular weight maleic anhydride homopolymers.
- 3. A process according to claim 2, wherein the specific polyolefin resin is prepared by combining together 100 parts by weight of the compound (A), 0.01-30 parts by weight of the compound (B) and 0.05-10 parts by weight of the aluminum hydroxide .
- 4. A process according to claim 2, wherein the compound (A) is graft copolymerized with the compound (B) to form a graft copolymer, the thus formed copolymer is washed substantially free from unreacted maleic anhydride and low molecular weight maleic anhydride homopolymer and the copolymer so washed is incorporated under heat with the aluminum hydroxide.
- 5. A process according to claim 2, 1 or 3, wherein the specific polyolefin resin is coated on the aluminum substrate, the two materials are contacted with a heating roll or plate having a surface temperature of 150.degree.-250.degree. C. to melt bond them together thereby producing a resin-coated aluminum foil or sheet, and the thus produced resin-coated aluminum foil or sheet is then laminated on the resin side with at least one member selected from the group consisting of high density-polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene-propylene copolymer and polybutene films.
- 6. A process according to claim 2, 1 or 3, wherein the specific polyolefin resin is extruded into the nip or zone of contact of the aluminum substrate and at least one polyolefin film selected from the group consisting of high density-polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene-propylene copolymer and polybutene films to obtain a composite, and the thus-obtained composite is contacted with a heating roll or plate having a surface temperature of 150.degree.-250.degree. C. thereby to obtain the retort-proof laminate.
- 7. A process for preparing a laminated retort container for packaging foodstuffs which container withstands without delamination food retort conditions up to a temperature of about 140.degree. C. and foods having a hgih acidity, oil, flavoring agents or spices content, said process comprising laminating an aluminum substrate to at least one polyolefin film selected from the group consisting of high-density polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene-polypropylene copolymers and polybutene films using as an adhesive a specific polyolefin resin in melted state prepared by incorporating aluminum hydroxide with copolymerized (A) and (B), where (A) is at least one member selected from the polyolefin resin group consisting of high-density polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene-propylene copolymers and polybutene, and (B) is maleic anhydride, and by rendering the so-modified polyolefin resin substantially free from unreacted maleic anhydride and low molecular weight maleic anhydride homopolymers.
