Claims
- 1. A process for the preparation of a compound of the Formula (Ia) ##STR4## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl and R.sub.3 is --CH.sub.2 OH, wherein the R.sub.1 in the 1-position and the hydrogen in the 12b-position are selectively both in the alpha-position, cis to one another with at least 98% stereoselectivity, which comprises the following steps:
- (a) catalytically hydrogenating a compound of the Formula (II) ##STR5## with hydrogen gas at a temperature of 20.degree. to 40.degree. C. in dimethyl formamide.
- 2. The process for the selective preparation of the compound of the Formula (Ia) defined in claim 1 wherein a palladium-on-carbon hydrogenation catalyst is used to hydrogenate the compound of the Formula (II).
- 3. A process for the selective preparation of a mixture of compounds of the Formula (I) ##STR6## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl; and
- R.sub.3 is hydrogen or --CH.sub.2 OH, wherein the R.sub.1 in the 1-position and the hydrogen atom in the 12b-position are selectively both in the alpha-position, cis to one another, with at least 98% stereoselectivity which comprises:
- catalytically hydrogenating a compound of the Formula (II) ##STR7## at room temperature in methanol or ethanol with hydrogen gas to yield a mixture of compounds of the Formula (I) wherein R.sub.3 is hydrogen and R.sub.3 is --CH.sub.2 OH.
- 4. The process for the selective preparation of a mixture of compounds of the Formula (I) defined in claim 3 wherein a palladium-on-carbon hydrogenation catalyst is used to hydrogenate the compound of the Formula (II).
- 5. A process for the selective preparation of a compound of the Formula (Ib) ##STR8## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl; and
- R.sub.3 is hydrogen,
- wherein the R.sub.1 in the 1-position and the hydrogen atom in the 12b-position are selectively both in the alpha-position, cis to one another with at least 98% stereoselectivity, which comprises:
- catalytically hydrogenating a compound of the Formula (II) ##STR9## at 40.degree. to 50.degree. C. with hydrogen gas, formic acid or ammonium formate in methanol or ethanol.
- 6. The process for the selective preparation of a compound of the Formula (Ib) defined in claim 5 wherein a palladium-on-carbon hydrogenation catalyst is used to hydrogenate the compound of the Formula (II).
