Claims
- 1. A process for producing an abrasion-resistant synthetic resin molded article which comprises the steps of applying a coating composition comprising
- (A) 5 to 60 parts by weight, on a solid basis, of colloidal silica,
- (B) 5 to 70 parts by weight of a hydrolyzate and/or hydrolyzed and partially condensed product of a compound of the general formula ##STR7## where X is CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH.dbd.COO--, CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(CH.sub.3)--COO-- or CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH--, R.sup.1 is a direct bond or an alkylene group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are alkyl groups having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, a is a whole number of 1 to 3, b is a whole number of 0 to 2, and (a+b) has a value of 1 to 3,
- (C) 10 to 80 parts by weight of a polyfunctional monomer having two or more (meth)acryloyloxy groups in the molecule, the polyfunctional monomer containing 20% by weight or more of a monomer of the general formula ##STR8## where at least one of the Y is CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH--COO-- or CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(CH.sub.3)--COO-- and the other is CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH--COO--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --OCO-- or CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(CH.sub.3)--COO--(CH2).sub.n --OCO--, and m and n are whole numbers of 1 to 8, and
- (D) 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of a photopolymerization initiator containing 60% by weight or more of a compound of the general formula ##STR9## where R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 independently represent phenyl groups, substituted phenyl groups, benzyl groups, substituted benzyl groups, alkyl groups of 1 to 8 carbon atoms, or alkoxy groups of 1 to 8 carbon atoms,
- provided that the combined amount of components (A), (B), (C) and (D) is 100 parts by weight
- to a surface of a synthetic resin molded article, and forming a crosslinked and cured film on the surface of the synthetic resin molded article by exposure to ultraviolet light.
- 2. A process as claimed in claim 1 wherein the crosslinked and cured film is formed by effecting a first exposure to ultraviolet light in which the ratio of the radiant energy in the wavelength range of 350-400 nm to the radiant energy at a wavelength of 365 nm is 2-10/1, and then a second exposure to ultraviolet light in which the ratio of the radiant energy in the wavelength range of 200-250 nm to the radiant energy at a wavelength of 365 nm is 0.1-1/1.
- 3. A process as claimed in claim 1 wherein the cured film has a thickness of 1 to 30 .mu.m.
- 4. A process as claimed in claim 1 wherein the synthetic resin molded article is formed of a material selected from polymethyl methacrylate resin, polycarbonate resins and polymethacrylimide resin.
